Pay It Forward 2014

It's TAX day here in the USA, and it's also the day I will announce who wins the bottle of #12 Akkerman Ink (with bonus bottle of Noodlers Bay State Cranberry)! Will post the result later this evening, CST.

I am well aware of it being tax day, unfortunately. Fingers crossed that this will be the silver lining of my day.

And the Akkerman Ink winner is: WirsPlm. I hope your tax situation is not in the red! PM me with your mailing address and we'll discuss what the shipping cost will be. Congratulations!

Edited to add: Thanks to everyone who entered.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

KBeezie,

Yes, the Apica CD. The one you linked to, that's the ones I have for two PIFs. They are not the Premium, but

they are so smooth! You would like them. I got about a dozen back before I got interested in FPs.

:P I'd enter the PIF, but I been so fortunate lately with other deals. So I'll sit this one out and just keep my eyes peeled for the paper in the future since you speak highly of them.

Have you ever seen that film of the piranha and the cow. ;)

Anyhow, the PIF is over, after slightly more than 24 hours. Assuming I packed all the right cartridges in the correct envelopes and made no serious mistakes with your addresses, you can expect mail within the next few weeks. (I may send them out in three batches, be patient.)

P.S. I've never used a Pilot cartridge in my life. I got a lot of them as gifts with Pilot pens I bought in various places. Never opened the boxes. I also got some cartridges with my Parallel Pens, but just assumed that these strange objects were unique to the Parallel Pen. Not so: They are just regular Pilot cartridges. Live and learn. :)

Okay, I used to have the Letter Writers Alliance and The Snail Mail Exchange in here. Somehow, my browsers settings and the forum's settings work together to prevent that from being the case at the moment. Whenever I try to update my signature, the whole process breakls down. So. Whatever.

Except that the ink in the cartridges for the parallel pens is NOT suitable for use in fountain pens.

There are a few threads where people have tried it and say it is OK. Done it myself - no problems.

I asked one vendor of the cartridges and he said he wouldn't use them in his FPs and it would likely invalidate any warranties. I suppose it'd be up to you if you wanted to use them but don't think I'd like to risk it.

Is there any concrete reason why it would not be ok, other than the vendor wanting to make sure you only use THEIR ink in THEIR pens (meaning you'd need to buy a Parallel Pen just to the ink).

Is it Iron-Gall? Does it have very large pigments? is it too low a quality to go thru finer feeds? Is it acidic on the pH? Does it happen to be cheaper than their main FP inks?

Why so suspicious and cynical? It is Pilot themselves who states it is not suitable, & the vendor I asked was just passing on that information. The vendor sells all different types of cartridge, but doesn't make their own. They are just a stockist. I have no reason to disregard their advice; of course others may decide to take a risk.

They stock all kinds of different manufacturer's inks so they have no

Not suspicious just very curious as to why. I know Parallels are their blade-style calligraphy pens so curious why their inks are different than the rest of their production. (though if it's strictly calligraphy, I guess it could contain the same type of materials used for dip-only inks). And I wasn't 100% sure Parallel was Pilot at first (sounded like it was it's own brand since it had it's own cartridge).

Just recieved my pen pif from Shaughn! It came with 4 vials of ink in what seems to be amounts of 5-6ml as the vials are nearly full.

1 marked PS, Penman Sapphire

1 marked SB Akkerman Shocking Blue

1 unmarked, Akkerman Oranje Boven (orange)

1 Gimborn blue

I'll probably use this as a take around pen or to give to a curious friend to spread the love of fountain pens.

Writing sample on a tint Rhodia pad. I believe the ink in the cart included is black. This pen writes a lot better than expected although I will make it a bit wetter.

Here'a a PIF...

What is up for PIF?: A Cigar Box/Pen Case with 8 slots. I bought this one a while back from BamaPen. The top has a picture of Van Gogh's Starry Night, and the inside has a detail from the same painting.

Who is eligible?: Please, let's limit this to people who are newer to FPs and need something to hold their pens. U.S. residents only, because I can mail domestic without going to the post office.

When Does it End?: One week from right now. So....Wednesday, April 23rd 19:45 PM EDT

How does one enter?: I want to see your need for storage. Show me (here, not by PM) your homeless pens and their current, unfortunate state of storage.

How do I pick the winner?: Whichever entry/sob story/picture I like best. I have no idea what criteria I will use.
