I think perhaps it is because so many of is have won PIFS that we actually used out judgement as requested and didn't enter for it :)

Ditto. (got so many pens didn't want to get in the way of someone else having a chance).

Don't get me wrong. There have been nearly 30 entries, but there were far more than that for the CultPens mini. And this time I didn't get the "regulars", who did enter for the previous PIF.

I would still consider previous winners as long as it wasn't for something major. It's just a matter of judgement isn't it? I want to be fair to everyone and often feel as though I'm being judgemental, which I hate. That's why I use a random number generator.

I must admit that what I do feel uncomfortable with is the entries by people with no other posts, who have joined FPN literally minutes before entering my PIF. Am I wrong to feel that? I don't know - I might be being unfair.

Probably lurkers...

but if it's only created at the time of the PIF and they seem to know their way around already, could be duplicate accounts?

Course if concerned that an account may be fake, can always report it to a moderator, they can probably look up the IP used to login to see if it's identical to another account.

I've had a couple 0-post entries, but all of them have been registered for a while.

Over the past two years or so I have accumulated a whole box full of cartridges. Some where give to me by well-meaning people, many where included with pens. In most cases, you can still make a reasonable guess what color they are, a few are in labelled boxes. There's blue, blue-black, black, red, green, and some other stuff. I don't use cartridges, so I'd be happy to send them out to people who want them. I have Parker (and short Parker), J. Herbin, Pilot, Platinum, no name standard and long Pelikan cartridges.

Ideally, you PM me what type you can use and I just dump a handfull or two in an envelope and mail them to you.

Okay, I used to have the Letter Writers Alliance and The Snail Mail Exchange in here. Somehow, my browsers settings and the forum's settings work together to prevent that from being the case at the moment. Whenever I try to update my signature, the whole process breakls down. So. Whatever.

Not wrong or unfair at all. Makes me wonder how many people make up new names to enter for the PIFs because they did not want to be found out. I have seen some smart ones saying you have to have been on FPN a certain amount of time to enter their PIF.

+1

I dont like the general idea of making fake accounts just for the sake of winning pifs. I personally believe if you really like something, and you have recently won something, you can still enter. This has to be your own judgement. It is upto us to keep the environment here clean.

I have done that in the past and was thinking of adopting that approach again, but I just like to throw PIFs open to all and trust in people's integrity. 99 times out of 100 it works OK, I think.

But then i have to agree kepping a min post criteria has its own pros and cons so it is upto the poster to decide. I think it kindof defeats the purpose of someone doing a newbie pif but apart from that i think its totally fine.

I have seen some I would like to enter but held back so others would have more of a chance. I have received so much generosity as it is. From PIFs and people just offering parts I need, etc.

Tonight I broke my new to me Sheaffer Balance nib. I have only had it two days. Just got a new sac on it and inked it. Not 15 minutes later I put a little pressure on the nib and heard a crack. The Iridium on the right tine snapped off. I mentioned it on the FPN page on Facebook and in under 30 minutes someone messaged me asking me for my address so they could send me a replacement at no charge. I am very thankful for all of the generosity.

I think that many newbies might feel that they don't have much to contribute when there are so many more experienced people around (or maybe it's just me)

Lamy Al-star Blue (M) - Caran d'Ache Carbon Black

Parker 95 (M) - Iroshizuku Chiku Rin

Cult Pens by Kaweco (mini) - J. Herbin Eclat de saphir

Contribution can be just getting to know the community, posting your thoughts, they might not have the know how of the experienced people here (heck even i don't) but they can have questions, queries etc, i believe a question in itself a contribution. As far as PIFs go, A lot of people win PIFs and post a pic after they get it, that to me is contribution more than putting a PIF. I agree not everyone can do a pif, it takes time, money (how ever small that amount be), but if the newbies can just share their thoughts, just hang around for a bit, i think that will be contribution enough for all of us.

It's not those who have been members for a while and who haven't posted. I can understand that, as I was a member myself for months before posting for the first time. It's those who have apparently only joined just before entering a PIF. A few literally minutes before.

I concur. Also, if you have entered often for a PIf from a particular person you become hesitant to enter as you don't want to seem greedy. That's the case for me at least.

The more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned. I like recognising 'old friends' who enter my PIFs, as much as I like newbies. As I said above, I do wonder if I'm being unfair, doubting the very new joiners. What can I say - I'm just a flawed human bean ;-)
