Love the way that 3 in 2 out looks. I kinda like the music notes and the circles.

Thank you whirlwind!

( And I hope you have recovered from the pneumonia you copped :o and feeling more human-like each day)

Here are some poor writing samples...

Attached is also a small photo of a what I think is a poor copy of a 51?

I found many years ago in my dad's workroom. Not to be confused with the real thing!

He thought it might have been his dad's, but it has suffered many indignities in it's lifetime by the looks of it... I've kept it out of sentiment.

Thank you again for your generosity.

Awesome, nice to see it writing beautifully in the hands of another :)

The sweet spot on it is mainly because it's old and the tipping is just worn down. With time, it should mold better to your style of writing.

Also, I don't think you need to work on your writing, it's far better than my own ;) You could say I'm slightly jealous, even. My normal every day hand is horrible monkey-scratch.

My pneumonia has almost fully cleared up, except for a bit of goop in the lungs. I'm almost back to normal, except for a serious craving for banana's...

Not sure why anyone would actually bother to give negativity based on things like geographics... postage keeps going up on a yearly basis. (I miss that time when a flat rate priority box was only like 4.35 as opposed to 6+)

I wonder if some people are under the perception that somehow all the PIF givers are somehow part of the FPN 'business' or something and they can afford to be a bit more 'generous' as one way of putting it.

:bunny01: If I did one I'd probably make people write me an essay... begging... but like with many I'd most likely keep it within the country that I actually live in since not like many expect the winner to pay for anything (though if they'd be willing to mail back a souvenir of the region... then maybe... lol)

I am going to offer one of my Pen Wraps as a PIF, (see Pen Wrap Thread).

Which one would be most popular?

There are several threads on Pen wraps. Have a link?

It might be best for me to say just take a look at my Etsy shop to see what I have, link in my signature, as from the various Pen Wrap Threads/Posts somebody already got me mixed up with somebody else.

I have two black blank A5 (3.5" x 5.5") Rhodia Webnotebooks I'm not going to use. I prefer larger journals and loose sheets of paper. One of the Webbies is still shrinkwrapped, and the other has its first six pages cut out from some personal notes I had written.

Anybody interested should send me one PM with a subject line "Rhodia Webbies Giveaway" by this Sunday, February 16th at 9:00PM EST. I'll add you to the list for both Webbies. I'll do a random number generator to pick two winners, each receiving a Webbie. I'll post here Sunday night to note that winners have been drawn, and I'll contact those winners for shipping addresses shortly thereafter.

Good luck, everybody. :)

I just received fourseamer's Rhodia Webbie! THANKS HEAPS! I'm currently in my exam period (high school exams which count towards my uni applications) so the arrival of fourseamer's PIF has brightened up my mood and made my day! Well, I have an exam every day this week and economics tomorrow so I shouldn't even be on FPN (I tried banning myself). But, I had to express my gratitude for the PIF! I am extremely excited use the webbie, as soon as I have time, which will be after my exams. Thankyou again, fourseamer and I'd like to wish everyone a good day.

Much appreciated,

Kev

I've done a lot of PIFs and always pay all the postage wherever in the world the item(s) are going to. I do that because it gets stuff to members who live outside CONUS and who can't access stuff easily themselves. I put up my own items, I'm not a business or anything. I just want to help people out or give them the opportuntiy to try stuff they might otherwise not be able to. And it's fun! :)

I don't ask for "bidders" to do anything other than express an interest. But what amazes me is the different ways people do that. Lots of lovely people give a bit of info about themselves and explain why they would like the PIF. Others send a very blunt brief PM saying "I want to enter your PIF". Literally that's all they say. If it was a language thing I'd understand, but mostly it isn't. Also few winners bother to write to say thank you. Some send a brief PM; others I never hear from, even to tell me the item has arrived.

I think there need to be better ways to promote the PIF thread on FPN. I see the same members every time and very rarely new applicants. And often if they are new to PIFs, even when established members, they tell me they never knew the thread was there and had to be signposted by another member. I would dearly love to see new applicants but PIF is rather hidden amongst all the other threads. Or perhaps it's just the type of items I put up?

Our thread is pinned to the First Stop forum - it's all the way up to the top! I think it's only difficult to find if you don't enter that way...

whirlwind and pandabirdy1 are a part of the reason I think so highly of our friends here. whirlwind gave a generous gift and pandabirdy1 posted pics and a writing sample to show how happy he is with his new pen. Look for another PIF from me in the next week or so. I just reviewed some decent pens that should see more usage. So my pif will be inexpensive pens with ink. May be a few sets to give, up to 5. Watch for my PIF SO YOU CAN GET MY STUFF.

That is such a nice post kidde!

( By the way, It's a 'she' not a 'he', and yes I'm very happy with the pen! )

I am tossing up a few options for my modest PIF, possibly dip nibs...

You are very generous with your writing critique!

Good to hear you are almost goop free.

People will now associate pneumonia with strange banana cravings...

I went back to correct my error, but apparently after being wrong for too long the FPN won't allow you to pretend you weren't. Your sample was very nice, but I have perfected whirlwind's "monkey-scratch" italic style myself.

Ray Cornett won the drawing for my Rhodia and ink samples! Send your address over via PM and I'll get them shipped out.

Also, I found a second Rhodia pad and an unused sample vial, so I am giving out a second mini-PIF to KBeezie.

I hope each of you enjoy these items.

I have enjoying seeing all the PIFs. But since some of the latest PIFs have placed post limits, I guess I better start posting considering I have been a member since jan (I think) but rarely post. I just don't have a lot to contribute. Anyway, I enjoy this forum and am always excited for the winners.

I might be doing another PIF soon.

Is anyone interested in some homemade thread sealant? I made my first batch last night and probably have 2-3 lifetimes worth. All it is is a mix of pine rosin with just enough castor oil to keep it from turning solid again. I tried it last night and within 10 minutes the section I used it one would not come off whereas before simply twisting the cal would unscrew it.

The Monochrome PIF

Hi All,

For my next PIF I thought it would be fun to put together a 'colour' themed collection of stationery. This collection would be useful for everyone, including new or experienced fountain-pen users. It includes a notepad from the brand new 2014 Rhodia White and Silver range. Be one of the first to try this.

This nice little stationery collection comprises:

  • A white and silver Rhodia A5 No.16 top-stapled notepad. 80 sheets of 80gsm white paper, with 7mm pale grey lines and 3cm margin. The subtle ruling, white shiny cover and silver Rhodia logo makes for a very smart pad.
  • A Clairefontaine black, soft-cover stapled notebook. With 48sheets/96 pages of 8mm lined 90gsm paper. No margin. Although this is really an exercise book, the "Age Bag" cover makes it look rather smart.

With the notebooks I'm including:

  • a grey Papelote elastic notebook strap, suitable for A5 size books, with loops to hold 5 pens or pencils. This can obviously be used on any appropriately sized notebook.
  • a shiny black plastic Brunnen 15cm ruler
  • a box of 100 black & white zebra striped plastic covered paperclips
  • a cannister of 6 J. Herbin Perle Noir (Black Pearl) international size ink cartridges
  • one legendary Palomino Blackwing pencil (black) with white eraser (soft graphite makes dark marks - suitable for writing & sketching)
  • one legendary Palomino Blackwing 602 pencil (grey) with black eraser (harder graphite makes dark smooth marks - suitable for writing)

This PIF will be open until 6pm GMT Thursday 27th March . It is open to everyone except those with less than 15 posts. I also won't include anyone who hasn't put any information on their FPN Profile.

I'm not excluding previous winners, but if you have won a PIF in the previous 6 months, please think about whether it's appropriate to enter another PIF draw.

I'm willing to ship world-wide, but please let me know when you enter, where you are located. Entry via PM to me.

Thanks all - I hope you like this PIF.

I have a Pilot Petit1 I've been trying to eyedropper (I love eyedroppers) and it works but sometimes the wide threads cause the seal to fail so this is highly relevant to my interests. Is your homemade product a permanent sealant or just one that requires some elbow grease to undo? I'd also be happy to trade a pen or some ink samples for it if you're interested (I may have too many pens for any one person to use in a lifetime, oops).
