Pay It Forward 2014

Not necessarily a great prize, but it costs me to send them out. A visit to the post office takes a bit of effort, and each package costs about the equivalent of six usd. So I want some assurance that where the pen goes it will be appreciated and not tossed or forgotten. THAT I can do myself...

True but it's still a bit of a gamble that it goes to someone who never had a FP, and if they never had a FP how likely are they to be active members here? Hence my original question, it's not really a big deal, just something that came to mind, like chicken-and-egg in terms of the intention.

Edit: may have been confusing two different people, but I understand what you're saying. If the participant can put forth some kind of effort to snail mail you their entry, then their 'prize' may be better appreciated.

redbike, I'm curious: are those nibs turned up? at the tip, I mean. They seem like the last mm or so is slightly bent upwards.

No, not turned up and not bent.

Yes, but the snail mail was just one example (not mine either, someone else did this, IIRC); it's just I wanted a way to know the pen would go where it was appreciated. I did ask once that the person getting the pen write me, via snail mail, once they got it. That was nice.

redbike, I did not mean is it bent as in damaged. As I understand it there are nibs that have the tip upturned, like a fude nib but a smaller part of the nib is turned upwards. I was just curious if those were like that, since they would give some interesting line thickness variation...

Howdy,

I certainly did not mean to exclude anyone. I waited until 3:00AM my own time, thinking that GMT being at 8:00AM Sunday most folks in a large group would be up and perhaps checking their computers. I was going NOT just going for people in that latitudinal time spread but folks on either side that, like myself, stay up late or get up early.

I just don't know, I thought my first PIF was a good idea, but I really got some negative feedback, not just posts but personal comments too. Now I do something different, and still get a couple of comments.

I guess after I announce the winner of my, as some called it, " gradiouse " first PIF, I'll just stay to the other boards or forums or subforums, see I am too stupid to know the correct nomenclature.

Thank you.

Wow negative comments? And you are giving away free goodies?!!

Stay the way you are and let them be the way they are.

I was actually awake yesterday in the middle of the night and although I did not react fast enough, It put a smile on my face to give it a try.

Please accept my gratitude for your generous gestures.

The way you decide, the people you include, even how you decide shipping (ie whirlwind asked that the winner of his P-51 be willing to cover additional fees of possible overseas shipping) are for you to decide. My first PIF had 5 winners, with one in India and one in China. Being ink samples, postage was more than the gifts. None of that matters since I chose to include everyone.

To put it succinctly, your gift and your decision.

Aggie, it is YOUR PIF, you set the rules, you decide how and who gets your gift. If others don't like it they can either not enter or put up their own PIF with the draw done how they want it to be done. Please dont feel disheartened by some thoughtless comments, your generosity is much appreciated as is the generosity of all who give on here.

I don't see the problem do as you please as the giver is being selfless offering something for noughing so I don't see a problem.

Enough of this silliness, let's get back to the purpose of this thread.

I am offering the following:

3ml samples of Diamine Oxblood, Noodler's 54th Massachusetts and an 3ml sample of one of the following:

Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo

J. Herbin Perle Noire

Diamine Twilight

Private Reserve Sherwood Green

Waterman Serenity Blue

Waterman Black

Also pictured is a Rhodia bloc 80g paper. Measuring a scant 2" x 2.9" this pad has proven far too small for my generally lengthy notes. I will ship this to the US only. The winner must have in excess of 50 posts. I will draw the winner at Midnight CST on Monday.

There have been "bad feelings" from time to time about perceived unfairness in how PIFs are given, a US-centric bias etc, etc.

PIFs are given based on the Giver's Rules, nothing else. Postage costs are heavy these days so let's all be reasonable.

For a desirable item it would be nice to offer it Worldwide (with the winner paying for postage)?

I know of a MB 149 and a Conway Stewart Marlborough given as PIFs for example and won by someone in the USA and someone in the UK.

I normally offer my PIFs to people new to fountain pens, students or those who can't afford a new pen/ink etc.

So without more ado:-

Ink Samples PIF - FPN inks Tulipe Noir and Galileo plus Cult Pens Deep Dark Blue, Brown, Green, Red or Purple.

Also a sample of Tomoe River fountain pen friendly paper.

Entrants should be Students, Unwaged or Newbies!!

I will send this PIF Worldwide (at my own expense).

PM me to enter.

Closing Date 30th March (UK Mother's Day). Enter for your Mum??

I am going to offer one of my Pen Wraps as a PIF, (see Pen Wrap Thread).

Which one would be most popular?

Fabric-wise, the blue/yellow/tan pattern is nice. I think it would appeal to either gender. I like the style of the 3 in/2 out wrap. They're pretty slick.

Doh! Just managed to find the Pen Wrap thread (still new here). The dark purple is nice too :)

Blue/Yellow/Tan - I'm not sure which one you mean? What sort of pattern is the one you describe?

al3261, all your pen wraps are beautiful, but qua style I would love the 3 in 2 out the most. No idea if it would be the most popular...
