Has it ever happened to you that you think everything is under control, nothing to worry about, and then suddenly you take an inventory and realize you have 9 of a particular item? Well, it happened to me tonight, so some lucky person can get a Pilot 78G F in their choice of red, black or green (I think it's green, it might be teal), the catch is that I'm going to the post office tomorrow so you need to PM me your address before then or wait another week.

The 78G is a great daily use pen, made of light and sturdy plastic with accents in a gold color and a nib plated with gold, it's a Pilot F (about US/EU EF) but very smooth for it's size (a bit of a dry writer, but works well with the inks I've used), uses Pilot converters or cartridges (comes with a converter), has a screw cap and the nib and feed can be easily pulled out for easy cleaning.
78G is claimed.

I'm also offering a Wing Sung 521 (looks like the pens here, no affiliation I'm just linking for pics http://www.ebay.com/itm/5pens-Vintage-WING-SUNG-lucky-521-Fountain-Pens-China-famous-brand-/121074828507 ), a slim pen in a mottled green marbleish pattern with a gold plated nib and comes with a fairly sturdy looking aerometric filler (much nicer than the Hero aerometric fillers), it's fairly light unposted but I don't like the balance posted so if you prefer not to post your pens then this will probably work well for you, I haven't tried it since I don't like the look as much as I thought I would so I have no idea what this pen is like to write with.

The first people to PM me their addresses and request the pen (or both pens, if you want) in the next 12ish hours will get them, US people only please (sorry lovely international people, shipping is expensive).

And that's both pens claimed.

I have 4 samples from the February Goulet Pens Ink Drop monthly sample program to give away. I only liked one of the 5 so the other four can go. I only dipped the nib into them so they are still full 2ml samples as only a few drops of each were used by dipping.

I have :

Pelikan Brown

Waterman Absolute Brown

Pilot Iroshizuko Ina-Ho

Noodler's Polar Brown

Message me with "Ink Drop" in the subject line. The first person to tell me what the 5th color is that I kept from Februaries Goulet Pens Ink Drop gets them. I, however, can not promise immediate shipment. It may take a few days.

We have a winner folks! Thank you. Come again.

Congratulations, Gump!

Thank you whirlwind!

( And I hope you have recovered from the pneumonia you copped :o and feeling more human-like each day)

Here are some poor writing samples...

Attached is also a small photo of a what I think is a poor copy of a 51?

I found many years ago in my dad's workroom. Not to be confused with the real thing!

He thought it might have been his dad's, but it has suffered many indignities in it's lifetime by the looks of it... I've kept it out of sentiment.

Thank you again for your generosity.

Howdy,

I have seen a few of my fellow FPNer do what I would call an " insta-PIF ". So that is what I'm going to do. I bought a Pelikan M400 when I got interested in FPs, but being new, I couldn't make myself use the Pelikan. So to get the 'feel' of writing with a pen I got a less expensive one. Unlike most of the other parts of the world, our educational systems didn't deem it important for students to start using pens and continue through our schooling programs. Therefore I wasn't comfortable using something so new & pretty. So, I found a Pentel Tradio fountain pen. It is a c/c style and can use the long carts.,also.

The nib is a Western F. I had a bit of a flow problem, but being new and a 'scar-d-cat' I wouldn't try to do anything! The nib is a steel two-toned pretty thing. I would say this pen to be a good medium size. Probably an adjustment from someone that knows what to do & it is a smooth writer!

Soo--- first PM gets it.

whirlwind and pandabirdy1 are a part of the reason I think so highly of our friends here. whirlwind gave a generous gift and pandabirdy1 posted pics and a writing sample to show how happy he is with his new pen. Look for another PIF from me in the next week or so. I just reviewed some decent pens that should see more usage. So my pif will be inexpensive pens with ink. May be a few sets to give, up to 5. Watch for my PIF SO YOU CAN GET MY STUFF.

Will have liked the pen. But i have kinda made up my mind, i shall not enter a pif until i put up at least 2 pif of my own. I think that will be fair.

Howdy,

Trouble is with the instant PIFs is that they don't take time zones into account so essentially exclude some people. Not that I've ever entered a PIF on my own behalf, but all the instant PIFs so far have been in the early hours over here. I appreciate the generosity of everyone who gives stuff away, that's what makes FPN special, but I prefer the equity of PIFs that give everyone the time and chance to enter; so I'll continue to offer mine with a good lead-in time. But hey, that's just my opinion..... each to theeir own right? :-)

PIF: two Wearever Pennants

1. Black with broad nib. Pen is in decent cosmetic condition and the nib writes smoothly. Needs new sac. This PIF is intended for someone who hasn't installed a sac on a lever filler. The old sac has been removed and the section nipple cleaned.

2. Green with medium nib. Pen is in good cosmetic condition and the nib writes smoothly. Barrel has a slight bend in the area of the fill lever and some widening of the lever slot, which doesn't affect the operation of the fill mechanism. This pen is ready to fill, with a new sac installed. This PIF is intended for someone who doesn't have a fountain pen and wants to give one a try.

Information on Wearever Pennants can be found at this link:

http://www.penhero.com/PenGallery/Wearever/WeareverPennant.htm

Please indicate via private message which pen you want, and I ask that you only pick one. I will use random.org to draw the winning numbers at approximately 9:00 pm EST on March 23. I will ship these pens worldwide at no cost. Good luck.

I kind of agree with migo984 - no instaPiFs for me. I like the unusual ones though, that require you to write in by snail mail, or tell a little story. I'm always trying to think of a way to make the PiF fun to both giver and receiver. The one I enjoyed most was when I asked people to suggest ways in which they would fix a pen that MIGHT be troublesome (based on two that I kept myself). The third one, which I gave away without testing, turned out to be the only one that did not have the problem... but it got sent based on the remedies the receiver suggested.

Just tossing out some alternative methods...

Do you have a post-limit for this? I myself have plenty of pens already, but some friends I know who were curious aren't likely to already have the post count racked up here simply because they don't yet have a FP (it's kind of like a chicken and the egg for them).

If post-limit isn't an issue, I'll relay this offer to some of my friends who have been interested since I been showing them mine (and least encourage them to furnish their new profile so they least stick around and learn more).

Sounds like a plan for the offerings that could be considered a real 'gem' of a prize, as long as it's still drawn at random in my opinion (assuming the entry requirements are met). More of us need to practice letter writing as it is.

I might actually give away a couple pens in the next couple of months (I over-purchased mostly chinese ones... they were sooo easy to buy up), so certainly sounds like a fun way to encourage participation. Course I actually plan to test anything I'd give to know it actually works naturally.

My preference is that these go to individuals who have already have FPN accounts, regardless of post count. I would rather not have someone open an account here for the purpose of entering the PIF. Thanks.

Noted (though I'd imagine once they had a FP... they'd be participating). :P

redbike, I'm curious: are those nibs turned up? at the tip, I mean. They seem like the last mm or so is slightly bent upwards.

Not necessarily a great prize, but it costs me to send them out. A visit to the post office takes a bit of effort, and each package costs about the equivalent of six usd. So I want some assurance that where the pen goes it will be appreciated and not tossed or forgotten. THAT I can do myself...
