Pay It Forward 2014

I have two black blank A5 (3.5" x 5.5") Rhodia Webnotebooks I'm not going to use. I prefer larger journals and loose sheets of paper. One of the Webbies is still shrinkwrapped, and the other has its first six pages cut out from some personal notes I had written.

Anybody interested should send me one PM with a subject line "Rhodia Webbies Giveaway" by this Sunday, February 16th at 9:00PM EST. I'll add you to the list for both Webbies. I'll do a random number generator to pick two winners, each receiving a Webbie. I'll post here Sunday night to note that winners have been drawn, and I'll contact those winners for shipping addresses shortly thereafter.

Good luck, everybody. :)

Congratulations to the winners of the Rhodia Webbies, and thanks to all who participated in the drawing.

Hello FPN,

I've been lurking these forums for over a year and a half without posting (I'm not a very sociable sort!) and I've always had a soft spot for the PIF threads. It just seems like an incredibly cool and kind thing to do! So I thought, for my first post, I would offer up some pens and ink that, upon my mission to thin the herd a little, ended up on the chopping block.

[snipped for length]

I'm offering this PIF to Canadian citizens only, to keep shipping costs down. First winner gets their pick of the lot, then the rest will be offered to the second, then the third, and so on! I would also prefer these go to a high school/college/university student, and/or an individual who is very new to the fountain pen hobby and has three or fewer pens of their own... but if too few people enter, I will open it up to all Canadians. Please PM me and tell me why you would like to win this PIF. The deadline is Monday, February 17th.

Good luck!

All of the items in this PIF have been claimed! Hope everyone enjoys their new pens/ink when it arrives!

Quick Edit: Howdy, so when I first put this PIF up today, I figured I'd get a bunch of responses, but I'm already ahead of what I expected. I think if it keeps going this crazy, I may have to end it early to at least give everyone a chance that's a whole number :P

If we make it to 30 entries, I'll stop the contest early and do an early draw. Really, my hat is not big enough for any more numbers :P

Having said that, feel free to keep PMing me if you're interested until such time as I say it's closed.

Howdy guys,

So I've been telling myself I'd like to do a PIF at some point, but never really had anything to give, as I've only started out in the hobby a little while ago.

But recently, I've gotten myself a Lamy Vista w/ LH Nib and a Med/Fine Sheaffer Imperial IV. Between these two pens (and the Waterman 52 with super-flexy EF/BBBB NY nib I have on its way), I no longer have need of my other "big" vintage pen because these fill all my needs perfectly).

I'm offering up my (fairly good condition) Parker 51 Aerometric w/ 14k Medium nib. The nib is smooth, but depending on which way you write with it (to me, it felt the smoothest when side-writing / hooking), it has some level of feedback (not scratchy in the slightest, it sort of drags a bit. But that's likely just the terrible paper.) I've prepared a written statement (Contains a few mistakes, but I wrote it before I had my coffee.)

There is a very hard to see scratch that runs maybe 3-5cm up the barrel, but it's not that deep and doesn't take away from the pen. The cap is surprisingly very well preserved. With a bit of a polish, this pen could be brought back to NOS levels of pretty. I'll make sure to give the pen a flush out before I send it off, but still, make sure you do one yourself when you get it.

Also, excuse the poor quality of the images, I took them with my phone's camera. I tried to get the best focus on the close shots as possible, but it's pretty limited.

Firstly, the written part (Excuse the average handwriting and mistakes). I'm writing in Toucan Ink (Dried blood, my own mix):

The best close-up I could manage of the nib:

And finally, a blurry-as-a-drunk-sailor's-vision shot of the full thing, cap on:

Details on how to win and who can enter:

I'm offering this to someone who is either a student or someone who is new to FP's and Parker 51's. Simply send me A SINGLE message with a brief "why I would like this pen" bit. If I get spammed by someone, they will be disqualified. This PIF is open to international folk, but with conditions listed below.

Conditions for International Folk / Postage:

I will cover postage INSIDE Australia only, but if you live outside the country, I will offer the following deal: For normal (sea, takes weeks) shipping, I'll need $5 USD to cover the extra postage costs over paypal. If you want it air-mailed, I'll need $10 USD (I'm still covering the 'national postage' part of the cost, I'm a student myself, so I can't afford to cover the extra for international as I just spent a ton of money on course fee's etc). If you're from a country other than Australia and you are applying for it, then you agree to those terms. I'll supply you with my paypal account + we can discuss details after you win. If you decide you don't want to help pay postage, I'll re-draw. I won't post until the extra postage costs have at least shown up in my history (I can 'borrow' the spare money I keep on hand for travel for a few days while it clears).

How long it will run for:

So I'm somewhat disorganised, but I'll try my darndest to keep to the schedule. I will draw for the pen in 2 weeks time (4th of March, which will be the 3rd for you Yankee's) because it will be a few days before my next pay-day and I'll have money to spare for postage again, as well as it being my day off. Plus I figure I should give people time to enter / find the extra money / etc since it's a good pen that a lot of people might want. I will try to get it shipped out asap, but bear in mind I'm working around study, so there's potential for it to take a couple of days worst case.

How the winner will be chosen:

As I get messages, I'll assign you a number. Then I'll write the numbers on a special "Potential-Winner Card™" (to avoid any bias, it will only be numbers. I know, you're not just a number <3) and place them gently into a special hat-like object. I will then proceed to distress it with fierce jerking movements with my arms so as to intermix the "Potential-Winner Cards™" in a random manner. I will then use my superior hand-eye coordination, coupled with a clawing action with my hand, to retrieve one of the cards from the hat-like object.

If you have any further questions about the pen / want pictures / etc, ask me here (but don't quote the whole post :P) and I'll try to help you out. I just don't want my inbox getting too full.

Wow, that is an incredibly generous PIF. I don't meet your criteria, but really nice one!

I had 7 entries for the TWSBI Vac 700 broad nib, and arandur was the winner!

Enjoy the new addition to your collection. Thanks to all that entered.

I want to give this to someone in Canada. It is a small turquoise fountain pen. Shipping is a pain in Canada. It is a small pen about the size of your pinky finger. Both the fountain pen and pencil works.

I'm also available to meet up if you live in the GTA.

That pen and pencil set it so pretty! I wish I could enter but unfortunately I live a little too far south to be eligible. I am sure whoever wins this very nice PIF will be extremely happy.

Had to make an alteration to my PIF.

Not the deal itself, but the potential ending time.

As it stands, in half a day, it's already at 10 people showing interest. I just added a little note saying that if I hit 30 names, I'll end the draw and do it early to give everyone a chance that is in whole numbers :P

But 0.02 isn't :P

At this rate, the odds may actually get there if I didn't cut it off at some point XD

::EDIT::

At the rate things are going, I might end up having to call a finish to entries by the time I wake up tomorrow.

Sitting at 20 entries currently.

New Black and Red Premium Note Book PIF

Time to take another opportunity to give something back to the forum! I have been using Black and Red books since I was a kid and have found them high quality and good value for money. So this PIF is for one of their latest incarnations an A6 brand new Black by Black and Red book. Its basically black and reds attempt at a high end Moleskin style note book with features including numbered pages, back pocket, 90 gsm Optik paper and book mark ribbon.

This PIF is open internationally with the only restriction being you cant enter if you have won a PIF previously this year. PM me to enter telling me what you would use the book for and I will pick a random entry and post a winner on the 25/02/14.

It will be posted by the cheapest possible way to its new home (reason Im a student).

I've decided it would make more sense to close this PIF on Friday 21st February as I may be able to post it at the weekend that way so if you haven't entered yet go ahead.

I've got quite a few American and Australian responses but few Brits or Europeans. So especially if your one of the latter two go ahead and enter.

What are these pads like? I've got a black'n'red pad at the moment but I can't stand it because I use fine nibs (as in needlepoints) and it's got way too much tooth. It also doesn't seem to work well with flex.

I'd love a notebook like this if the paper's smooth, as I've been using a 'Pukka pad' for a couple of months now and it's awful (still better than my old black'n'red pad, however).

I'll have to rule myself out for this one anyway, just wondering what the pads are like.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi everyone,

I have a $35 Goulet gift certificate to pay forward.

I was given this myself (don't worry, I did check before passing it on) but I can't really use it effectively as I'm in the UK and, factoring in postage, I could just about afford an A6 Clairefontaine pad ;) Of course, I'd love to finally get some good paper, but I'd far rather this went to someone who can actually use it. I've been very blessed recently, and I'd like to pass that on if I can.

My only condition is that this goes to someone who lives in the USA. I'll pick someone when I've generated sufficient interest.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi I'm yet to actually put pen to paper in one unfortunately (got a lot of half used case bounds to use before I brake out one) but I did rub my finger over the paper and it felt the same as the standard Black and reds but smoother then the recycled paper black and reds. I definitely think the paper is smoother then Pukka and I never have had any issues such as feathering or bleed through with it. I think the newer black and reds (last 2 years) are smoother then the older ones. The reason why I use black and red books is because they are good value for money and at about £6 for the A4 variant I can justify using them for University notes. However the only other choices are the likes of Collins ideas which are a little rougher and moleskines which cost a fortune and bleed through.

If you want to try something else which is good value and is quality try these Pukka Case Bounds they are excellent value and as good if not better then Black and red. Obviously they are available as single books too but I saw this pack which is very good value for money

I would like to put up a PIF for pen repairers!

I have a Geha pen to offer (I don't know the model; someone gave it to me hoping I could fix it and use it!). The body is not in great shape. There is a ring on the cap from the clip spinning around and the piston appears to be broken. However, the nib and section are in good condition. But I don't want the nib to go to waste because it's a nice semi-flex Geha nib!

Additionally, I'd like to send it in your choice of (very homemade) pen sleeve (see picture below).

To enter: Send me a PIF telling me why you want this pen and which sleeve you would want if you win. Due to postage fees, USA only please. I will run this PIF until Sunday, February 23rd.
