Yeah. Don't forget. He did say... "If I win, i promise you that I'll walk into my Anatomy class with this notebook, dressed as a badass, dissect a frog like a man, then sit down with my pretty notebook and write my notes without giving a crud. This is known as the art of manliness." Someone should get a picture of that. LOL

Congratulations to TheTidderOfWinks69 on winning the much talked about PIF. I think you won by putting your HUGE statement out in the airwaves and karma or what ever it is decided you needed the opportunity to show... well you know!!! Seriously congrats just don't think about not showing us your photo op.

While I'm here I would like to congratulate all of the winners since I last posted, which has been too long. Also thanks to all the givers of PIFs this is a grascious thread.

I'm curious on what the views are on PIF's that the winner pays postage for? Are they generally frowned upon or is it all good?

I'm considering a PIF, but can't afford postage myself. On the other hand, since I live in Australia, the item might not be worth that much with the postage lol.

It's a good question and I have been thinking about the problems associated with very high international postal costs and PIF's.

The PIF I have going on the moment I have available internationally but I have stated I will cheapest possible shipping method (i.e it will be shipped costing just under £2 but may take up to 60 days to arrive) as a £5-£6 airmail cost could buy me a new item to PIF.

About your original question I personally think that the sender should pay for shipping. This is because it's the norm and everyone normally absorbs the cost of shipping It may cost you a few quid but others have done the same for yourself. If international shipping is pricey no reason why you can't make it an Australia only PIF. Or you could offer to pay basic shipping costs and if the recipient wants it quickly you could get them to pay the difference.

I might have to just wait until I have a little more money.

I might make it open to international people if they're willing to pay the extra, but will cover the costs of a small pre-paid parcel envelope inside Aus.

I know people are going to want the PIF and I don't want to say "NO, you live in America" but I might have to *shrug* I guess I'll get a few more views on it and ponder it for a while.

I wouldn't feel bad making it Aus only as people here are very understanding that students have a limited spendable money and international shipping can be a bit of a ripoff.

I made my first PIF UK only to avoid heavy postage costs but received so many genuine and lovely requests from abroad that I changed my mind and sent them anyway.

Llike you toppen, I shipped as cheaply as possible and it really didn't cost that much more than domestic postage.

Pens and ink went to

Australia,

Curacao,

Florida,

UK x 2

for around £13 total.

As an international receiver of PiFs (among other things) I'd like to say that I do not mind this at all, in fact I welcome it, since it permits us internationals to participate in the first place! But I also appreciate those givers that shoulder the mailing costs without a word - a gift is a gift, after all. I always pay for shipping my PiFs, and this is not cheap, but it allows far more coverage of the globe, so to speak. Most times, the pens I've given cost more in shipping than in buying... go figure.

So, NO it is not frowned upon, and the participants who join know beforehand what is expected, so feel free!

Trust me, if I was working then I'd be more than happy to slow-boat it anywhere in the world, but as it is, I just paid almost a grand in course fee's, plus another few hundred in books / software / external HDD for virtualisation etc.

I think I'll wait until pay day before putting it up and I think I'll keep it limited to inside Australia.

I might be able to pack it small enough that it'll only cost $5 or so, but I should probably verify it before advertising.

I think it's fine to do it anyway that suits you. Asking people to pay does NOT negate the goodwill or generosity of the PIF giver. If you state clearly that the PIF winner will be asked to pay postage then people can chose whether or not to enter, on that basis. That applies whether it's international or domestic.

I restricted a heavy book to domestic bidders as it would have cost a fortune to post internationally. Everything else I've given has been open to anyone anywhere in the world (apart from restrictions due to other criteria in my current Tomoe River & Basildon Bond PIF).

I'm thinking I might meet halfway. International winner pays $5 (or $10 if they want it via airmail) towards postage, inside Aus, free. I can get a slow-boat package / letter to the US for about $10, gets to about $15 with airmail.

I'll see how it looks on payday and work it out from there I guess.

Hefty mail tariffs indeed. I don't blame you for hesitating! Hasn't it struck people that the less we actually mail letters, the more it costs to do the occasional one?

The criteria for any given PIF are up to the Giver. People enter on that basis.

I do think that if anyone does restrict entry to their own country it would be nice to offer it to International entries with the winner paying the difference in postage.

Fantastic! Couldn't have gone to a better person. I demand to see photos of it being used in front of judgemental peers.

I have a WIng Sung 333 with what looks like a gold plated Lucky nib that I just don't get along with, so I'd like to pass it along to someone who needs another pen or wants to give a pen to a kid they know. The pen works decently but since I have several pens I can't find a reason to keep it.

The pen has a randomized grid pattern of neonish blue and yellow, pastel green and a few silver patches separated by gold colored lines. The tip of the cap and the end of the barrel are both black, the clip is chrome with a wavy pattern engraved into it, the nib is a solid gold color with Lucky written at the bottom, it uses standard international converters or cartridges and the whole thing is solid plastic so it's fairly light. The converter sometimes has problems with ink tension (but can be replaced by another converter) and the nib is reasonably smooth but does have significant feedback. All in all, it's a decent pen for school or play but not for a professional setting, there were times when I'd have been thrilled to have a pen that looked like this but that was many years ago. :)

I'm open to sending the pen internationally depending on shipping fees. I'll leave the PIF open for 3 days and draw a winner on February 20th.

This is an ADORABLE pen. Honestly. I've seen these on eBay for cheap (but only in multi packs), probably because they're not made any more, I don't think. I'm just not the plastic kind of guy. I strongly encourage people to apply for that.
