Pay It Forward 2014

Beautiful color, beetle! Someone will be lucky to win this.

It is indeed a gorgeous color. Be advised of the "creeping crud" that it tends to produce in nibs. Harmless, wipes off, but freaky looking! :-D I'd hate to see anybody get a bad rap on it!

Be forewarned... I will eye-bang the bejeezus out of your pens...

Now I'm very sad I don't live in Canada. That is an amazing pen case! I love Batman.

The winner will be very lucky for all of it, though!

Let's play a game:

Whoever can guess my first PIF, gets the pen. Ask me a question for clue answerable by yes or no. You can keep asking as long as I say Yes until you score a hit. If I reply No, you're out! One person at a time. If you win, I'll gladly mail it for free. On your mark, get set, go...

Hint: I'm 62 and I'm older than the pen.

I'm gonna start off with a wild guess because I can - Is it a Parker 51?

(Also, I should totally get immunity if I'm wrong as the first question asker and having to balls to take a wild guess :P )

You should?... Why?.. Nothing in the rules about free guesses... or having balls... (Sorry.. my competitive nature comes out whenever games are played... :P ...)

Waiting on the answer so I can ask my question... "one person at a time".. ;)

Thanks to an a-nonny-moose benefactor, I am offering up to a lucky stub neophyte a Bordeaux red Reform Calligraph, pictured below.

The Bordeaux red Reform is quite rare with this nib, especially in this color. It comes near mint, with a gold-plated steel, 1.3mm stub nib and is a piston filler with a clear ink window; the piston works perfectly.

Now here's the catch. I want to give this to somebody who is not familiar with the joys of stubs. Moderators need not apply. Folks who have been members for at least three months, and have really contributed 30+ posts (real posts, not any of the goofy "+1" stuff) are eligible. Obviously, I can't go through checking all yours posts for this, so, be honest, please... I'll leave this running until Jan 12, 2014. May the luckiest win!

I have been meaning to ask - what is the difference between a stub and an italic nib?

I have italic nibs, and I have a Plumix with an "m" nib that looks like an italic to me.

If a stub is different, then I will send you a pm or whatever we have to do to enter this, but if it is the same or different only in name then I am taken care of, next batter up... ;)

My understanding is that the difference is something of a matter of degree. A stub and an italic both are wider then thick, yielding variations of broader downstrokes and narrower cross strokes. An italic offers this to a more pronounced degree, but, having sharper edges is more position sensitive, whereas the more rounded edges of a stub make it easier to use, but showing a lesser degree of variation. Hope that makes sense, and yes, by all means PM me to enter!

I think i really wish I had been a member for the required 3 months. Stubs are new to me but 1) the pen is beautiful and 2) it looks like it would help me to write with a much more calligraphic (?) flavor. Wow, what a nice PIF for the fortunate selectee! My opening comment that "I think I really wish" is because the stub nib is so new to me, or maybe that I am so new to using fountain pens.

That BB stub looks juicy. I picked up a 1.1 Goulet nib for my Vac 700 and a 78g with a broad stub recently and they're tons of fun!

Does the brand or model name have at least 1 "e"?
