Pay It Forward 2014

Can I do a PIF? A bottle of J. Herbin Perle Noire, with ink to the bottom of the neck (about 85% full). Also is a Pilot Metropolitan, without a nib and feed, with a few visual defects on the barrel if anyone wants it in their hands instead of the trash.

If you're in the Continental US PM me why you'd like a bottle of Perle Noire or the pen that fits a Plumix or Penmanship nib.

Thanks guys :D

I have concluded the search for takers. Hopefully the winners make swell use of these items :D Edited by Kuhataparunks

Don't worry, I don't qualify, I already got the Blue Cashmere

I entered for the pen. Only one rule: she'll pick who she darn wants. :P

I have way too many pens.... you're safe ;)

Besides, Napalm gets anything he wants...and Mrs. Napalm approves of in advance.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Small PIF

I've a Hero 529 that I did some nib shaping on. It's an EF, so there isn't much to do, however I managed to stub it (Thanks so mach, Dan Brown - forgive me for forgetting your forum name, for sending me the abrasives!!!), and it has a nice variation for an EF. It is smooth-ish if you write with it at the angle I ground it at, which is pretty low. It writes nicely and is a very fun disposable pen, however, I seem to have some flow issue with it that I cannot figure out.

Over all, it's a very cute little pocket pen, and as everyone knows, it's disposable, but I really like it, hence I decided to pay it forward rather than throw it out.

The PIF is open worldwide, I will pay the shipping. I will pick the winner myself, so please write down why would you like to receive this troublesome lady. Preference will go to someone who can fix it up and use it, or perhaps PIF it to someone who wants it more.

The pen will come as is, no converter (those converters are so flimsy, it basically broke), but with an empty PR cartridge, a medical syringe, a couple ink samples (J.Herbin Rose Cyclamen and Diamine - Pres. Blue), and a couple ink cartridges.

I know this pen is probably not worth it, but I like the little lady, and I think it's worth a shot. It's also always nice to have a pen at your disposal that you can land someone to write with!

PIF is open until proper winner is found.

Hopefully next PIF will be a bit more exciting :P

Nonsense. My first PIF was also a pen in need of repairs. I think this one is perfectly charming..

But I'm no tinkerer, so I shall pass.

Well, this pen is something that very little people would like to tinker with :P I am ordering a couple Jinhao's next to screw with the nib - perhaps I'll grind a nicer stub haha!

PM sent. I have a big problem passing up a tinkering challenge. And several pens in my collection came to me as broken PiF pens. Some I managed to fix myself, others I actually sent to a pen repairer to have fixed. I'm happy with all of them.

Surprisingly enough, there is a taker. mhguda, the pen will be out your way, with the inks and all, as soon as I can get to the post office :)

Congratulations TXKat! Please PM me your details.

Here's another PIF. This one will be open worldwide. The pen itself is not particularly exciting looking, but I've ground what I think is a cool italic nib. Dimensions: Posted 154mm, unposted 119mm, Capped 134mm, Body 11mm, Grip thinnest 9mm. It takes standard international cartridges and will also take a Delta converter (not incuded).I'm not a professional nibmeister by any stretch (so it won't be very pretty), but I've tried to grind the nib so that it works well at almost any angle.

This PIF will close on Sunday at 11:59 ET at which time the winner will be randomly drawn. You may enter both the notebook PIF and this one but may only win one.

So, what's your point?

(Mine is a flexible F.)

I just threw an extra notebook into my cart with my last order. I figured people would not be likely to just order a notebook to try because the shipping is more expensive. :)

Okay....One before lunch!

But I've been asked... What are these ink powders?

This should help answer the question. The powders were developed by Black Stone Ink company and sent to me for testing. Because I love to share the experience, I opened it up to others in this thread. More than 50 FPNers helped test the first four batches of powdered inks - Amber, Balls, Cashmere and Diamond. Here are the results of those tests, sorted by color.

Blue

Blue Batch A = Blue Amber

Blue Batch B = Blue Balls

Blue Batch C = Blue Cashmere

Blue Batch C version 2 = Too Blue Cashmere

Blue Batch D = Blue Diamond

Black

Black Batch A = Black Amber

Black Batch B = Black Balled

Black Batch C = Black Cat

Black Batch D = Black Diamond

Green

Green Batch C = Green Cashmere

Green Batch D = Green Diamond

Red

Red Batch C = Red Cashmere

Red Batch D = Red Diamond

After those tests, only the Cashmere line was distributed for further testing. Attendees of the Toronto Pen show were given three of the Cashmeres (Black, Red and Blue) and beta testers known as the SuperPInks were given sachets of four inks to test (Black, Red and Magic). The Green Cashmere suffered a mixing meltdown and ended up being Magic. Each sachet of Magic is a different color AND it changes color as it dries. ITS DANG COOL and will never be made again.

As for the name SuSeMai - Blackstone was originally the SUper SEcret MAker of Ink. Blackstone said it like Toshiba - like Sue See Mah. DCPritch who thought it was funny that I'm an attorney by day and ink tester by night, says it as So Sue Me. The rest of us just call it AWESOME INK POWDER.

Now... on to the PIF:

First one to PM me with a name and address...

Susemai / Blackstone / Ink Powder

1 Sachet of MAGIC Cashmere.

Rules: If not within the US, you pay actual shipping. You cannot have already won one of these inks.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Would anyone appreciate a cute, small

Apica CD5 Notebook? It measures 2.8"x4.1," about the size of a postit note, going anywhere in continental USA.

It is a very small notebook with a few pages (neatly) torn out of it.

It's been sitting on my desk for months and I hope someone gives it a more exciting, useful life!

PM me why you'd like it and I'll select out of the first two that do.

The PIF for the TWSBI Diamond 530 has reached 25 entries. There's still time until Thursday afternoon. Here's the original post in case you are interested and haven't seen it yet. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/258092-pay-it-forward-2014/?p=3186120

Now, small updates: The winner will be drawn via random.org. I didn't state this before.

Also, the Diamond 530 had some issues when it came out, mainly with (hairline) cracks developing in the section (and -lesser extent- barrel and end cap)

Brian Goulet talks about it in this video http://youtu.be/94qk0EFbYvU?t=5m (skips forward to 5 min. mark) He's comparing the 540 and 580 here though. What applies to the 540 applies to the 530 mostly.

Really, when re-assembling the pen. Keep the parts aligned and don't over-tighten the connections, then I'd imagine you will be fine.

(Also don't torque the section if you are taking out the nib)

So to all again best of luck.
