It's my turn to do a PIF, in honor of Fountain Pen Day...

WHO

This PIF is open to FP veterans and newbies, alike, but preferably will go to someone who has never owned a piston filler and could appreciate the smaller size of this pen.

WHAT

A NOS Reform 1745 pen with a lovely, springy nib. I may have dipped it at one point to try the nib, but this pen is otherwise unused, although there may be microscratches from storage and handling that were already there even before I got it. This is a great pocket-sized pen, a fabulous writer that holds a ton of ink.

I am afraid that the camera on my phone is not the best (and the skills of photographer is not so great either). The pic below does not do it justice.

WHERE

Open worldwide, I will pay for basic USPS shipping.

HOW

Send me a PM stating why you would like this pen. I will assign you a number in order of receipt, and the winner will be chosen using random.org.

WHEN

Deadline is Sunday, 11.59 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Best of luck!

I own a Reform fp as well, it's the P120 Model, somewhat similar to the above 1745. For me it's the pen that brought me back to fountain pens and I'm grateful for that. Whoever wins it (I wish not to enter -of course- on account that I already have one); whoever wins it I say, can look forward to a nicely engineered German-made no-nonsense vintage (I don't know, like 2-30 years old) piston-filler, that also can make for a great beginner pen, or even a school pen.

(On mine -must say though- the only thing that was bad was the clip. The coating on the steel clip rubbed off in next to no time, after a year of use, there's maybe 15% coating left. The coating might have deteriorated with age)

Anyway, great PIF. And if you don't win, Reform fps are still somewhat easily available on that one auction site.

I love mine, and that's the reason why I did the PIF; I bought these pens 2-3 at a time to give to people who were more than just curious about FPs, and who I knew a Preppy just wouldn't get them hooked. But the Reform sure did! ;-)

The PIF pen is my last extra (I stopped seeing supet deals on these a number of months ago). It's been dip tested for nib alignment and cleaned with pen flush so it's ready to go!

As you say, the plating wears on these pens at an incredibly fast rate, but ooooohhhhh that wonderful springy nib!

My own Reform 1745 is about to get inked up for some Holiday letter writing. Apart from the springiness of the nib that gives off some nice line variation, I like the huge ink capacity for hours-long writing sessions.

I've actually thought about getting another Reform model or two and will have to look into the 120!

The 120 has a hooded nib. I for one love hooded nibs, but yeah, it basically doesn't flex. There is also the same pen without the hood though, P100 maybe, or P110? Something along those tines. pun.

I have to say, I also got started on German piston-fillers with somewhat springy nibs, when I got back into pens after college -- an M200 and an M400. I wanted a pen with a lot more ink capacity than my Waterman Phileas c/c. Had I had recourse to Reforms like this one back then, I would probably have bought them instead.

You can't go wrong with Pelikan! I like to think of the Reforms as "starter" German piston fillers! ;-)

I've been playing nice with my previous PIFs but now for something completely different ;) Up for grabs is an unused demonstrator Noodler's Konrad. It smells bad and the only guarantee I can give is that it's free worldwide. You get the pen and an extra nib (Noodler's non-flex fine/medium) but no box/instructions. If (and when) you have problems with the pen there's plenty of advice here on the forum.

PIF is open until next friday.

I like that guarantee! Come on, they don't smell that bad! A nice PIF that'll make someone very happy. Hopefully the drug dogs don't "hit" on the pen's fumes! Those non-flex nibs are quite nice with a bit of smoothing. Alternatively, they are great nibs to practice grinding on.

BUMP! Less than 12 hours left for anyone worldwide to enter.

I also wanted to dispel any misunderstandings about what I meant by "springiness" in my original post... As I read some of the messages I have received from entrants, it appears some folks took what I said about it to mean that this is a flex pen. It is not. This pen cannot be flexed out to no end, you'll "spring" the nib (a term that describes when you stretch a spring's coils out so far they won't go back to their original shape) or otherwise break it.

It does, however, give some line variation with some character not unlike that of an italic nib, I suppose, and the springiness is kind of like having a Bilstein strut or shock absorber on the pen that makes it much more comfortable to write with than a so-called steel nail nib.

If you are looking for a true flex pen, Thuja is now offering one in a PIF just put out today, and which you'll find a few posts above this one!

2 pens!

Both for one newbie! (New to FPs, who only has one or two or three FPs, but who is loving the hobby and wants to try and use more.)

Who has never won a PIF before!

1. Haolilai 661A, purple. I reviewed it here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/263053-haolilai-661a-a-very-informal-handwritten-review/

2. Rotring Art Pen with 1.5 mm nib, just like this one: http://www.jetpens.com/Rotring-ArtPen-Calligraphy-Pen-1.5-mm/pd/6641?gclid=COHLz9Tb7sECFQwzaQodHxIAPw

Both pens take international cartridges; there is a converter included with the Haolilai. Both are good pens, but they aren't getting much action in my rotation and I am feeling a bit gluttonous by hanging onto them right now. So they should go to a new home where they will be used.

To be considered, PM me and include:

-Your name

-A little bit about how you got into FPs.

-Something interesting about yourself.

-Your mailing address.

Winner will be picked randomly.

They've actually arrived. I had hoped you'd have added my ghost to the ghosts thread, but that can wait till you're ready to use it.

I have to do the scanning. I was trying to get the fade scans uploaded. I'm falling behind.
