Pay It Forward 2014

Due to lack of time available I very seldom look at threads that do not specifically relate to pens or calligraphy.

A couple of days ago I had a bit of time and I browsed this thread but I ran out of time before reading it through. It is indeed a very venerable attitude by the members of this forum to create something like this.

If I am allowed to do it this way I would like to award my PIF 2014 to "top pen" as his message shown below reflects in one paragraph the spirit of this forum.

"top pen" if you pm me your postal details there will be a pen going your way.

Kind regards,

Rui

I really like this thread as it allows people do little acts of kindness that help others. Also I like how it's an easy way to pass on out of favour pens to others and those new to the hobby which hopefully will create new young fountain pen users. I'll have to keep a look out for more things I can PIF as for low value items ( I'm a Student don't really have that much disposable money) it's far more satisfying giving stuff you don't use away then selling.

Edited by RuiFromUK

Kind regards,

Rui

Very kind of you Rui; I see no reason you can't do it exactly that way. The one giving the gift sets the rules and decides who gets it!

Be forewarned... I will eye-bang the bejeezus out of your pens...

I have a Lamy 1.1 stub up for grabs. I got it last year to try out a stub nib but turns out stubs aren't my cup of tea, so I'd like this PIF to go to someone who wants to give a stub a try, on the understanding that if it turns out not to be for you then you PIF.

PM me if you are interested. I'm in the UK but for such a small item I can probably post it to other countries as well subject to cost.

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in this PIF. I really like being able to pass things onto people who will find a use for things I can't find a use for.

I have just done the draw for this PIF using a random number generator to assign numbers to everyone who registers interest, and then to generate the number of the winner: it selected the number 3. The winner of this Lamy 1.1 Nib is Nukiper. Congratulations. I hope you enjoy using it.

Sorry to have taken a while to get back to you. I only had 7 entries in all for the Esterbrook PIF. The lucky winning number from a number generator was No. 1

Congratulations Empyral. PM your address and ink sample choices.

Thank you to All the others for their interest, I only wish I had more.

As yet I haven't heard from the winner. I will give it until the end of Friday, if I haven't heard by then I will open up the PIF again and include all previous entries automatically. I will let you all know by End of Friday.

Thank you very much, I love trying different inks.

I like to share the love of fountain pens around, people notice when you use a fountain pen and are keen to try if you encourage them a bit!!

And on that note I'll have another PIF at the weekend.

Thank you once more Cyber6!! :D

Dear Forum

I would also like to give something away. I have the "Spencerian copybooks" volumes 1,2,3,5 to give away.

I will ship these worldwide free of charge to someone who shows a interest in calligraphy. Please PM me until the 20th of January, and I will choose a winner of these four books based on a sophisticated algorithm B).

I have to say how much I love this thread. The idea of strangers sharing something they are passionate about on the internet is amazing. We are inundated by so much marketing from so many directions these days that it is wonderful to see a place where people are sharing simply for the joy of passing on something to someone who will use and appreciate it.

I am just starting out in the fountain pen world so I don't anything to share yet. When I do find something that is not of use to me, this will be my first stop. :)

Happy New Year people.

I have been blown genuinely away but the generosity of this community and at the suggestion of a couple of members (you know who you are) I am offering three lots of goodies to pass on the kindness.

I've not done one of these before so be gentle with me.

Up for grabs are:

1. Lamy Vista pen with a black medium nib that has been ground (at home) to a crisp 0.5mm cursive italic. Looks like a dogs dinner but writes really well. I'll add an almost completely full bottle of LAMY blue black which, like the pen, I am unable to get along with :(

2. A brace of Waterman Reflex pens. One is green and has an unadulterated fine / medium nib - the other is a black bodied version with a home ground 0.5mm cursive italic nib that looks less like a dogs dinner as I had learnt my lessons previously on the LAMY ;)

3. An old style Rotring Art pen - FINE, hardly ever used.

I'd like them to all got to different worthy homes and will happily pay postage as long as it's in the UK.

I know my offerings aren't much but PM me if you're interested, letting me know why, and I'll ask my kids to choose a worthy recipient next Friday evening,

:)

Congrats Nukiper! She really deserves this! (She sent me a very generous PIF!)

I would like to be considered, but I already have a PIF in limbo, I do not want to come off as greedy so I will hold off entering until I know if I have been drawn for another one ore not.But this is a really nice deal.

I am not quite sure how all of this works as this is my first PIF, but I would like to offer up an unused bottle of a Dromgoole exclusive Noodlers ink, Texas Blue Bonnet. Hopefully I will be able to post a writing sample later this weekend, but I need to get my camera or scanner to work before that can happen. This PIF is for USA only. Please PM me with a number 1-100 and I will use a random number generator and the closest will get the bottle.

If you are over seas and would like to cover the shipping cost, please feel free to enter and state that in the PM and we will work something out.

Good Luck and there will be many more PIFs to come!

The drawing will be next Friday 24-Jan-2014.

Hellooooo! Today I would like to offer up my first PIF! There's two things that I would prefer to go to separate homes:

First is a Fabriano ecoqua (I think that's spelled right) notebook. It measures 3.5"x5.5", is orange, unlined, staple bound. I estimate there are 48 pages or so, with all the pages in the second half being perforated. I love this paper, it's taken well to all the FPs I have so far, so much so that I use one of these notebooks as an ink journal.

Next is a homemade Midori-like cover. It's sized for pocket notebooks, 3.5"x5.5". There's enough elastic loops inside for four notebooks, though I've never put that many in there. The Midori style just didn't suit me, so I would like to pass this along to someone else who will get more use out of it. The leather is very thick and study and has a few wear marks, but that gives it some character. The elastic currently on it is bright blue for the notebook holders and orange for the closure, with a blue and white bead on it. I realize these colors may not be everyone's jam, so I'm more than happy to change out the colors. The colors I have are in the last picture.

I'm going to limit these to entries from within the US, since I'm in school right now and international shipping is a bit hefty. If you are interested in either of them, please PM me and let me know 1) which one you want (it's ok to say both), and 2) your favorite ink+pen combo. I'll give everyone a number, and then randomly pick a number next Sunday, Jan 26. :-)

Did you draw all those little ink bottles? I like the way it looks and think it'd be a neat way to keep track of inks I have tried. ^_^

I agree...A nice little piece of art. I'd hang it on the wall.

I think so, too! It has a neat look. You could probably make it into a background for your desktop.

Hi Seiry, hi Write Shop Robert.

I'm so chuffed you like the little bottles.

I draw a bottle for every ink I own - or mix.

As I mostly use my inks to sketch with it helps remind me which ink takes a water wash well and what the colours will look like when I do.

Oh! That is so cool! I was looking to see what you had and if I have ever seen that particular color before. LOL I also love your avatar. ^_^

would love to see all your pages. Too bad I'm across the pond. I don't own a Waterman in working condition. I think I have one that's missing it's cap. I buy pens in bags or boxes at estate sales and sometimes get some that are pretty beat up.

Umm...Where'm I Goin' ?
