How Do You Carry Your "edc" Pen(S)?

Yeah, I get that, but being not in the UK for the foreseeable future makes me look at alternative notebooks that may fit. I saw one of these cases recently on eBay in red leather and I was tempted but for the sizing of the notebook.

Well, up until a few months ago when I realised that Basildon Bond produced Duke sized pads I had been using loose leaf paper of the correct size and weight bought from a craft supplies:

Mostly I just left it loose leaf but 'bound' together with a hoop of paper and tucked under the leather strap along with blotting paper and a guide sheet and that worked perfectly, I did make up a couple of glued pads with the paper as well but it was more of a faff than was needed really.

I currently carry mine in a Pelikan 3 pen case. It's adequate.

I have just purchased a penvelope 6 pen case but haven't received it yet. I'll post a review when I do.

I really wanted the visconti dreamtouch but couldn't justify the extra 30 bucks over the penvelope.

These are not quite all of my collection, these are ones I love the most, carry daily, depending on which I want to carry on a particular day.

Pen Storage shown:

Kanji 5 Pen pouch by Nan and Ling of years ago. Open pen wrap which holds 4 pens, Masai Woman print - by Lai Yee (Her Nibs of HisNibs.com), Masai women 2 pen pouch, Lai Yee; Libelle leather 5 pen wrap; Kanji print 8 pen wrap, Nan and Ling; in front spread, Masai Woman 8 pen wrap, Lai Yee (Her Nibs).

Collecting pen wraps, pouches in which to carry my beautiful collection has also been part of my passion.

+1 for Franklin-Christoph Penvelope 2.

There are two main pen slots, but if you are careful, you can fit up to 2 more comfortably without worrying about things being scratched. I carry 2 FPs, and 4 thinner pens/pencils, an eraser, and ruler, all in the Penvelope 2. I love it!

I called them, (Franklin-Christoph) inquiring about the 6 slot Penvelope. Someone returned my call, but they were still in L.A. and in the process of returning to NC. We have had snow, which began last night. For the most part many of us are snowed in, doubt anyone was able to get to work. It is my next acquisition for my collection and by the fact one can only put 6 pens in the six pen Penvelope, it will deter me from even remotely considering purchasing one more pen. Right!

Oh wow. Received my A5 Franklin-Christoff notebook cover in black saddleboot leather today - it is amazing quality! Just as good as the pics on the site but even better because I can feel the gorgeous quality and thickness of the leather - far thicker than any leather compendium cover I've owned. It fit an A5 Clairefontaine blank journal perfectly and snugly. There were no marks on the leather and it was packaged well. It has its own soft velour drawstring bag to protect the leather.

The penvelopes haven't arrived back in stock yet, but one will be purchased, without question. I'm now wondering what else I 'need' from their range. :)

I really appreciated the zero international freight cost for orders over a very reasonable value - as an Aussie, international freight is sometimes prohibitive or makes me think twice.

I've used a number of cases and solutions over the past couple of years, but since I got a Nock "Hightower" I haven't looked back. 3 pens is enough for me to carry (there is actually room in my murse for another FP plus one ballpoint in another area of the bag, so total 4 fps), and I put two Backpocket Journals in there. Always writing material and writing instruments at my disposal, a case that is easy to clean if it gets dirty, really well made, and only $20. Killer. (Click on the pic for a link)

Hi Intellidepth. I was considering their notebook cover too. I have a 2 year old penevelope 2 that's holding up really well, so I'm already sold on their quality.

I'm wondering about the snap on the saddleboot notebook though, My penevelope has 2 snaps that snap so loosely that they barely keep the strap closed. How secure is the new saddleboot notebook closure?

Smackyf: Much stronger than the penvelope 2 I received today - the weak snaps were first thing I noticed actually about it. Apart from that I am really impressed by its build quality.

My penvelope 2 is part of the stock that ran out prior to March this year (ie not the new stock that should have arrived by now).

Both of my A5 and A4 saddleboot notebook covers have very solid single snaps. (The A4 cover became the 'need' item ;) ).

Thanks Intellidepth. Glad to hear the saddleboot notebook closes securely. Definitely at the top of my 'need' list!

Smackyf: my apologies - I'm going to change my opinion of those notebook snaps after trying them again this morning from a more critical perspective. They are definitely stronger than the penvelope but not "very" strong.

They are secure enough IMO for what they do ie they keep the cover shut just fine and would handle a bit of movement, however they're not (usually) going to get buffeted from hanging from a strap or belt like the penvelope. My initial perspective was influenced by this assumption of my everyday use - strong enough for me. If I shuffle it around a bit like the movement it would normally receive in any of my bags, it holds just fine. If I hold the cover flap alone and allow the weight of the entire unit plus notebook to hang from it, it pops open very easily.

I'm going to have a closer look at those snaps to see if I can bend the fine metal wire catches to make the penvelope grip more strongly.

Yes, that worked really well! You'll need a very fine jewellers flathead screwdriver to adjust the snaps. penvelope is now perfect ;)

Nice! I just adjusted my penvelope snaps. Much tighter now and actually snap and stay closed. Thanks!

When I carry one pen, I clip it to my shirt pocket when I'm not wearing a suit or sport coat; otherwise I clip it to the inside breast pocket. When I carry additional pens, they go here.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.
