Modern Conklin Crescent With A Noodler's Flex Nib + Repair Question

I noticed that the Conklin nib is similar in size to the Noodler's size 6 nibs and decided to attempt fitting my (newly acquired) 2009 Conklin Crescent with a Noodler's flex nib.

 

Surprisingly, the Conklin's feed supplied the flex nib with plenty of ink to handle all kinds of flexy writing.

 

 

 

 

The repair question I have concerns its ink sac. I unscrewed the section from the barrel and the crescent bar caught hold of the sac and tore it off the sac nipple. I attempted resaccing the pen with the same sac several times over only to have the crescent bar take hold of the sac when screwing the section into the barrel.

 

Does anyone here have experience with resaccing these new Conklin Crescents?

I haven't had to re-sac one of these, but I have had experience with the bar catching hold of the sac. I'm sorry to hear yours tore away. I was able to get mine free by wiggling it (very) slowly for about five minutes.

 

The best way to avoid this is to make sure the crescent is in the locked position so the bar can't move.

 

Maybe you could put some talc on the outside of the sac so it's more slippery?

Very strange. If the press bar is locked in place there shouldn't be anything in the pen body for the sac to snag on. There's literally nothing in the body but the bar, and it's not attached to anything...

 

Have you removed the bar/crescent and looked at it? Perhaps it's bent somewhere? If it is the sac could be getting caught on that.

 

Maybe also check and make sure there's nothing else in the barrel? I can't imagine what would be...

 

If the bar is defective, it should be covered as a free repair under YAFA's warranty.

The bar is perfectly normal. I'm guessing the sac itself is too big for the barrel? My pen didn't come with an o-ring on the sac, so the sac could be different from what is usually issued on Conklin Crescents.

Have you talked to Yafa customer support yet? They're amazingly excellent, at least in my dealings with them.

 

If not, email claracornett@yafa.com and describe the problem in as much detail as possible--if you can, you might want to include a picture of the sac and bar. I would ask about getting it repaired. It might be under warranty. If not I'm sure it wouldn't cost much.

I finally repaired it. The bar for whatever reason doesn't catch onto the sac anymore. I guess I was being too clumsy before? Even so, the screw-in section makes sac replacement a little problematic compared to the friction fit sections of vintage pens.
