Parker 51 Insignia/signet With Single-Tone/white-Metal Clutch Ring?

Hello guys,

 

I've seen on a website a beautiful Parker 51 insignia manufactured in England with pretty good condition and I was about to place the order. The only question I've got is that the pen comes with a single-tone clutch ring (white-metal). I suppose an insignia/signet should come with a double-tone clutch ring with gold-plated middle recess, is that correct? Please give some advices on this one!

Not that they wouldn't look smart on an Aero too but the Gold wash clutch rings only came from the factory on Vacs, usually with Gold or GF caps.

 

You can still find them around and they Will fit an Aero, they just didn't Come that way.

It looks like all signet/insignia have aerometric filling system, however the clutch rings, as shown in the picture, are double-tone with gold wash in the middle. The signet I've seen, on the other hand, has a single-tone clutch ring like the one shown here:

I'm not sure whether Parker has ever manufactured signet/insignia with single-tone clutch ring, If not then does it mean the clutch ring has been replaced or the gold wash is worn-off?

I'm speaking without authority; it may be a national difference in production. I notice the one with the wash has ENGLAND on it.

 

Also, the wash seems to come off from the pressure of a prolonged gaze, so I'm more surprised to see it than not, on any given example.

In the second picture you're quoting, that is a fantasy 18k overlay vacumatic, so it was originally just a plain 51 vac, most likely. A non-gold-washed clutch ring is normal for that one. It's more likely though that the one you're looking at has the gold wash worn off, as it is 'gold wash,' after all. It's just like some pens' clip plating - if you look at it funny for long enough, it comes off.
