Parker Jotter Pen & Pencil Manufacturing Dates

I just recently got a Parker Jotter pen and pencil set for use, not collecting; however, when I got the set I looked up the date codes on each. The pen's date code is IIIL for the 1st quarter of 1993 and the pencil's date code is A for the 4th quarter of 2002. It seems strange to me that two items like this, packed in the same box, could have such different manufacturing dates. These are "brand new" and packed together in a sealed package. Am I reading this right?

I have come across the same thing at times with the Jotters from 1979 -1984 . [still have the brass threads.]

My thought on this is not enough caps with the same date code and use old stock, or they just dump the the next batch of caps the the assembly line. Check out parkerpens.net they have a section on the date codes. I just pulled out the printout that I have on the date codes 1992 4th qtr date code is [ A ] 1993 1st qtr is [ IIIL ]

I just looked again at the parkerpens.net date codes and there are 2 As. One is for 2002 and the other is for 1992. It would seem logical that the 1992 is the one so the set used pens and pencils made during the 4th quarter of 1992 and the 1st quarter of 1993. I missed this when I was originally looking at the dates. So this set is 20 years old.

Hi!

I also recently got a Parker Jotter ballpoint pen.

It has "FRANCE" and "Y" letter stamped on the metal barrel, or maybe it's a Lambda "λ"

Do you have any idea about the production date ? Y refers the year 2013 ?
