haha finally Dupont gets some love! :)

They look great (I have a carbon Defi) but the nib is a little hard for my taste.

The pen I write with, is the pen I use to sign my name.

A flurry of activity on an old(er) thread. One of the joys of forum membership. I'll toss in my new black ebonite Edison Pearl. For me, the definition profoundly well designed and proportioned simplicity. Everything fits and suits. I own nothing more elegant.

edit: I should check the dates on these threads!!

Why? The question is not time sensitive and it is an interesting question. The dimensions of elegance differ quite a bit among folks, eh?

My choice? Modern: Omas MoMA or the old-style Paragon in HT trim. Vintage: Sheaffer OS Balance, in basic black of course! The brilliant Balance is not overtly 'vintage' in appearance or function and it has a place in this discussion.

For elegance on a budget: Pilot Custom Heritage 91 in black with rhodium trim, I'd also second the Lamy 2000 for a very understated modernist elegance and any of m215 variants from Pelikan.

Classical lines and a silver cap on a pen that glides on the paper...

MMMM... I just happen to have one also.... <!--emo&:P--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:P--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:P--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

Argggghhh

No No Thrice NO!

I find myself in agreement with Old Griz again, wot IS the matter with me <!--emo&:blink:--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:blink:--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:blink:--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The black "51" has to be the most elegant modern pen <!--emo&B)--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/cool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='cool.gif' /><!--endemo--> So is it to be the Vac with a Sterling cap, or perhaps and Aero with a Lustraloy? What about a black Aero with a Gold Filled Cap then? Or rarer a Black Newhaven Aero with a Rolled Silver Cap?

OK so the "51" is not a 'Modern' pen in exact terms, but it is probably the most Modern Pen styled of the lot that are around. It is a streamlined design instead of this exposed nib business. But if YOU MUST have an exposed nib, then I would say the Sonnet in Black Laque with Gold Trim and the 18k Gold Nib. I had one but made a present of it to Herself a year ago last Xmas, since then I am only allowed to fill it up <!--emo&--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/sick.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sick.gif' /><!--endemo--> It has the thin Gold Bank with on the basis that less is more is the more elegant.

Nearest thing looks wise, Lamy 2000 I guess, but that is not exactly NEW now <!--emo&--><img src='https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/html/emoticons/headsmack.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='headsmack.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Jim

I agree with you but difer a little, it must be a black barrel Parker 51 vac with a golden cap.

Here's a pic I did on this very subject a few years ago for a Pentrace photo contest.

Simply elegant. Sheaffer OS Balance, Sheaffer Connaisseur Herringbone, Waterman Opera.

If the studs on your shirt are black and gold trim, your pens should definitely match. (likewise for silver/black studs with silver trim on a black pen).

I second the suggestion that the correct answer is the S.T. Dupont Orpheo with the caveat that the metal furniture should match the studs and cuffs.

N.B. Roller balls and fountain pens need not apply!

I got a satori (sartori?), the question of Miss Petra implies the whole dress for men or women and the question falls in the clips no mater the blackness, a color or gold or silver clips enhances or diminishes its elegance with respect to the dress. We need to recheck the old issues of gq.

Too bad you want 'modern'. :headsmack:

Rolled Gold Trim Geha 725 14 C semi-flex (@1960-72).

I really got to make a better picture, gold disk on top and bottom, sleek rolled gold clip.

Of the three I think the Geha 725 is most classy, most elegant. It was the pen Geha set out to catch MB with, and they did.

Geha was the competition for Pelikan.

The Geha 725 turns up in my top 3-5 pens for pretty. For a black pen it's my prettiest.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The real problem is no one has heard from Petra in over a year, not even by snail post.

She was one of our Pelikan experts.

Omas 360.

MB Meisterstucks 145 or 146 (147 if you prefer CC) for elegance. 149 becomes overstated due to its size in a ladies hand (but not mine).

Aurora 88.

(Pelikan Souverans I would rate up there with these for engineering quality, but not in elegance)

Senator Pesident

Pilot Custom series

Sailor 1911 series

Not much to give and take between these pens but for iconic 'bird splat' of MBs and triangular design of Omas 360.

Smoehow for me the cigar shape is more elegant than the flat end cylinders.

Also I find balck and gold more elegant than black and silver.

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

Junaid
