Elegance is a matter of cultural reference and aestetic (spelling?). Take a look at the Dani Trio Kawari-nuri, especially the Old Negoro-nuri. To me that says elegance like Grandpa's Churchill XXV, or his pocket watch.

For me, it will always be an Aurora - either 88 or Optima - with silver trim. Those pens are just so beautiful and well-proportined.

That said, I think my new silver-trimmed Sailor Sapporo is an elegant number. In fact, as I mentioned in an earlier post, it seems to be modeled after the Optima. While the Optima/88 may be slightly more elegant in appearance, the Sailor's smooth nib trumps any aesthetic difference.

For me it would be a Parker 51 Double Jewel with a Sterling Cap.
Classical lines and a silver cap on a pen that glides on the paper...
MMMM... I just happen to have one also.... tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Argggghhhhhh!

No No Thrice NO!

I find myself in agreement with Old Griz again, wot IS the matter with me blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

The black "51" has to be the most elegant modern pen cool.gif So is it to be the Vac with a Sterling cap, or perhaps and Aero with a Lustraloy? What about a black Aero with a Gold Filled Cap then? Or rarer a Black Newhaven Aero with a Rolled Silver Cap?

OK so the "51" is not a 'Modern' pen in exact terms, but it is probably the most Modern Pen styled of the lot that are around. It is a streamlined design instead of this exposed nib business. But if YOU MUST have an exposed nib, then I would say the Sonnet in Black Laque with Gold Trim and the 18k Gold Nib. I had one but made a present of it to Herself a year ago last Xmas, since then I am only allowed to fill it up sick.gif It has the thin Gold Bank with on the basis that less is more is the more elegant.

Nearest thing looks wise, Lamy 2000 I guess, but that is not exactly NEW now headsmack.gif

Go back to Tatooinie...

And listen for this from one Who Knows the Way...

"Hi, I'm Harley Earle, And I Have Come Back To Design You a Fountain Pen..."

The Waterman C/F...No, not my choice in this thread...but its direct llineal decendent...the Carene is.

Bill...Don't screw around with the Force...Harley, like Raymond, KNEW how to design...

Ah, but what configuration? Black cap or fluted metal cap in silver or gold? Or perhaps the vermeil cap?

That beautiful suggestively marine-worthy gold nib does give that pen a real moving elegance to glide across parchment with such artistic ease. It is quite something to behold.

Edit: Um, I know--"marine worthy"? It's funny, but to me when looking at the nib section up close from the side, it reminds me of a modern speed boat. wink.gif

Hi--

Take a look back in the thread...

I opined just the plain Carene--black laquer. Or maybe the matte grey, which, in a subdued light, might just make it.

And yeah, speed boat is a good way to describe the look. Please correct me if I am wrong...but Carene...is not that a Spanish word for boat or ship???

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

The answer is very simple MB 149.No other pen is as classy as this marvel.

In second place I would say Pelikan M800/M1000
