Question About Richard Binder's Nibs

Hi all, I have a question of Richard binder's nibs. I wanted to buy a nib for my Pelikan m200, and was wondering if it would have extra flex and all if i were to buy a standard one from his website. Here is a screenshot of what I am looking at.

The nib you are looking at is a modern steel nib and is not a flexible nib. If you want to get a nib with extra flex, you would want to order a gold nib and have Richard customize it for you.

Actually nevermind. I figured it out. Would a m700 nib fit on the m200?

Right now the site is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. If you click on the "nib interchangeability chart" on the Pelikan nib page it will show you which nibs will fit your M200. Then you can either add a pre-made flex nib to the cart or purchase a nib and request the customization that you desire.

The M700 Majesty nib does not fit the M200 pen, but based on the chart it looks like the M700 Toledo will fit that pen. One thing to keep in mind is that while a nib may fit the pen, how will it look on the pen? If you send a contact to Richard, he will be back right after the holidays and I believe they site reopens for business on Saturday for "Small Business Saturday", he could help you choose a nib that would be a good fit for your pen and that would allow him to make the flexible nib that you want.

YVW, I have one of Richard's flex nibs - they are really great!

Buy a Pelikan 140 first, it is semi-flex. Can be had on German Ebay for near the same price as a new 200

After six months and your Hand is lighter buy a 'flexi'/maxi-semi-flex 400NN.

 

I don't know if the steel nib of the 200 can be customized to semi-flex but 14 K gold can be. Ask Richard.

 

The 200 has a nice regular flex nib, with some spring...but if you want extra go with the 140.

If I may clarify a bit for future references,

 

The M7000 (Majesty) has M600 sized nib therefore would be hit and miss with M200 in terms of compatibility and no go in terms of availability. Even if it is, it won't be economical.

 

And while a Toledo (M700) nib would fit an M200, it would cost more than the pen, and most dealers have to order it in from the distributor. The 18C toledo nibs may have more give among moderns but still not enough snap back for that purpose. IME.

 

I would not recommend you go vintage even if they are flexy, as they weren't designed for that. Like Indy said, I'd get Richard's 14C flex and be happy. Easily replaceable in case you sprung it.

- The M200 is about the same size as the M400, and will happily take an M400 nib. If you want Richard to flex a gold nib -- a modern Pelikan gold nib -- then start with the 400 nib.

 

- Larger nibs, such as the M600 nib, will not fit inside the cap. Too long.

 

- The M200 steel nib is soft...it has some give to it, but it is not a flex

 

- The 140 and 400NN are great Pelikans from the '50s.
