400Nn - Back From The Brink

This one needed a new section badly - I should have taken a pic - but the entire lip had broken off.

The blind cap also had a hairline crack up the side of it.

Nice repair job, Shawn...or would you call that a customization? Was that ebonite that you used to fabricate the blind cap and section?

Great repair, looks like new, the ripples don't disturb :)

Just out of curiosity, why did you choose a mottled material instead of a solid colored one?

Thanks for showing it.

And it's gorgeous - of course I think so - it's my pen :) I think that Shawn has done an incredible job fixing a pen that I had given up for lost. As I told him, I bought another 400nn but I couldn't make myself throw this one out. And now I am glad I saved it. He has really sparked my interest in this small manufacturing project too. I have a small lathe that hasn't been used for years. I used to use it to make nib holders for dip nibs. I have pretty much given up on dip nibs but I would love to learn to do what he just did with my pen. Just what I need - another obsession :)

Well done Shawn and kelridge! Thank you for sharing. I am mightily impressed seeing that major surgical procedure done out of love. I hope Lazarus there brings you writing joy for years to come. I just did a bit of a minor face lift a few days ago to remove two lines engraving, also on a 400NN tortoise:

It wasn't exactly easy, the curing time nearly killed me :) And the end result is nothing special, but I'm quite happy. Btw, I bought it out of pity because there were no love for it, most likely because of the large engraving, but after a bit of spit and elbow grease I reckon she'll be right for an edc or gift.

Cheers,

Tony
