Lamy Persona

Hi,

First post here.

I recently bought a Lamy Persona ith the Makrolon body. Since this is my first Persona, there are some issues with it that I am not sure are normal or not. Perhaps others here can shed some light and suggest possible solutions.

1. The feed with attached nib comes out quite easily. Just a slight pull and out it came. Great for cleaning. Is this normal? Seems awfully easy to remove - easier than any other pen I own.

2. Is the nib supposed to be removable from the feed? I didn't want to force it but it didn't seem like it would easily come off.

However...

3. My great problem with the pen - the nib isn't as tightly attached to the feed as I might like. Locked onto there (as far as I can tell), but not firmly clamped in place. When writing, the nib moves away from the end feed, starving it of ink and generally has to much movement in it. Is this common? Is there any way to tighten it onto the feed any better so it doesn't lift off the end of the feed and starve the nib of ink? Could something be broken on mine that I can't see or don't know of?

I hope my descriptions create a clear picture. If not, perhaps I can post one.

Thanks,

Steve

I am not certain that the Persona came with a Makrolon body.

Does your pen look like this: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/61641-lamy-persona-titanium/

Or like this: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/227631-lamy-2000-and-the-origins-of-lamy-design/

Let us know,

The Persona you linked to above is the titanium model. I have a makrolon body version sitting in a cup on my desk as I type. The cap is metal, don't know if it is titanium or not, and the body is smoother than the 2000's body.

ETA: With a little more research, the Persona I have is the Persona 23. It has a paladium cap.

Same as mine then. makrolon body with metal paladium cap. Mine seems to be a great pen with a few problems to work out.

Thank you for educating me on a variation I am unfamiliar with. I have a matte black Persona and am just having a difficult time picturing the nib issue you described. The nib and feed in mine are solidly in place.

Good luck finding a fix.

PS-a photo would be much appreciated

Mine is a black titanium oxide** (mat black) 18 K nail one.....my nib seems pretty solid to me. mine is wrapped around, open under. a little bitty square on the top of the feed that pressed the nib bottom to the little 'gold' rim.

Perhaps some one loosened it trying to change the nib like a Safari.

I had no reason...ie another gold nib to put on it, so never fiddled with the nib.

** Don't play well in the sand box with other pens...more abrasive.

I was at the Lamy factory this summer for a tour, and they are bringing back the Persona next year....don't know what versions....

As requested. Sorry for the blurry ones - I'm still learning on my new macro lens. Didn't help that my kids kept crashing into me and then into fits of elated laughter.

Notice on the last one how the nib is separated from the feed. This is what continually happens as I write.

I have never attempted to disassemble the nib and feed unit on my Persona, so I have no idea how it goes together or comes apart. But, from the pictures you posted, something looks wrong when I compare it to my pen. Your feed looks too bowed, mine seems to be flatter distally so that the underside of the nib is lying against it. And it also looks like the nib might be set too far back on the feed by just a bit, but that might only be the angle of the camera.

So, upshot: maybe you need a new feed or more professional assessment and possible readjustment or repair. Hope you get the problem solved. I think the Persona is a very good pen and fun to use, although some people think it is too heavy and poorly designed.

It is not the camera angle - the photo is accurate to reality. If I push down on the end of the nib, it goes flush with the feed. This is the problem; it has a bit of play in it causing the nib to move away from the feed as I write. This evening, I cleaned it out and, used some silicone-tipped jewlers pliers, I attempted to secure the nib to the feed better. It seems more secure now. I am still waiting for it to fully dry before I ink it up again (morning).

The makrolon body version like mine is very light. I almost feel it is too light for my tastes. However, I like heavy pens. The nib is very smooth. Smoother than all my other Lamys including a 2K. I find it very comfortable to write with regarding size and shape. When I have the money to buy another pen, I will definitely be in the market for another Persona though I'd like to try an all metal body one next time for some variation. I think it is a beautiful design.

I agree, the Persona is a well designed pen, the nib on mine is very smooth, and it was designed to be posted - a definite plus for me. But some have voiced the complaint that posting the cap makes the pen top heavy. Well, I post any pen that can be posted, I have a fairly high writing angle of the pen to the paper and I have never found any pen top heavy. And, yes, the makrolon body by itself is light, but the other models are quite a bit more substantial.
