I love my Al-Stars and Vista. I'm so sad to have recently lost my charcoal Safari, but I have memories. And a photo:

Have a bunch of Al-Stars. Sold the Lilac and Purple in these photos:

My first successful stub grind was on an Al-Star nib:

Ah! Another EF nib lover. Also, I can't remember where so don't quote me, I found out how to make my EF nib even finer by using an emery board. I prefer the black plated Lamy nib. How about you? I find something uncomfortable about their steel version.

there's my favorite the light blue/red!

Is it normal though for whatever ink used to stain the body nearest nib? I also have a lime green Lamy and the same thing happened. The ink which you see on this one is also the ink which stained the lime green. It was not even my normal ink, just a couple fills of purple. It has been quite a few years, so I can not recall the brand offhand, yet it is permanently tattoed. Yet, I have refined the XF nib myself a bit more than original condition and it is one of my old favorites. Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki ink. :)

The leak is around the collar just above the nib, I get the same with all of my Safaris, and I think it happens because the nib's back edge does not go into the section as it does on 99% of F.P's, so there is a path where the ink can escape, and it probably happens when the cap is on.

It's worth flushing out the cap with water from time to time. Also storing the pens upright might help too.

Mike 59,

I will do as you suggested. I already pretty much carry them all upside down. I will flush cap thoroughly after I finish this response to you. The ink you see is really old and won't come off ever I believe. I am not concerned, guess I have chalked it up to it giving this Lamy its character. Wouldn't you know it...no orange tinged ink to offset the ancient purple ink already tattooed on the pen now. I guess I have learned the remedy too late for this beauty. This is my everyday workhorse though and there is no shame in a workhorse being unique. :D

These are mine! Red, white, yellow, neon yellow, neon coral, and charcoal Safaris, a black purple Al-Star and a Tipo roller ball. I'm missing an old Savanna Green Safari FP that my father gave me when I finished school and started uni. It and the red and yellow SFP's have my name engraved on the barrel. These are all inked and used every day!

It has arrived today. A white Safari with an EF nib. It writes so thin, like a sharp pencil.

  • 3 weeks later...

Here's a pair of vintage Lamy 27s. I don't use them much, but they are welcome parts of the collection. I believe the bottom one, with the fully hooded nib, is a fairly early version of the 27, and uncommon with the stainless cap with GF trim.

Thank you. Disassembled and cleaned carefully by me... The plastic capped 27 on top has a couple of longitudinal cracks in the cap, unfortunately, so if you ever come across a replacement donor cap over there in Europe, let me know. I'd love to make this one proper again...
