Hello, I recently decided to work on my penmanship and bought the inexpensive Parker Vector, with which I am thus far pleased. I do not care for the ink accompanying the pen and would love a recommendation on another ink that is ... black, opaque, thick, less watery, quick drying, waterproof. I'm sure you all have your preferences and certainly know exactly what would work for me, so please, if you would, share.

The Vector is a decent pen. I have two, and recently got an italic nib for one of them. I enjoy writing with it.

 

I'm not into black inks myself so I can't help you there. But a warning: stay away from "India ink" that can be very deep gleaming black but which is certain death to your fountain pen.

Some ink properties do not often coincide in a given ink. A fast-drying ink may not give good flow through the feed system, when the user is a slow writer. Liquid ink achieves "permanence" by bonding with the cellulose fibers of the paper. If an ink dries too fast, this bonding cannot take place. Thick inks are slower to dry and don't always feed well through fine nibs.

 

Suggestions are on the way. Try to decide which characteistics have priority of need..

Do you have a converter for drawing ink from a bottle, into your pen ? If not, you are using the disposable cartridges. They can be refilled with bottle ink ,using a syringe.

I also vote for Noodler's Black - it's a great ink. You will need a converter if you don't yet have one, though. Parker uses "special" ones - good places to get them, and the ink at the same time are http://www.gouletpens.com and http://www.andersonpens.net (no affiliation with either, other than spending too much money).

I say try Noodlers Bulletproof Black jsut to start. It is cheap, of good quality, a nice black (you don't know there there are other blacks than black untill you get a bad black), MAde by hand in the USA, each bottle is like a fingerprint for counterfeirting and it is TRULY waterproof once dry. 3oz will cost you around $12.00 + SH and taxes where applicable. Did I mention it was CHEAP AND OF GOOD QUALITY. If you don't like it get another ink and save the Noodlers for your next pen. Not all inks work well in all pens, and all inks work differntly in all pens. I own one ink, Noodlers Black, and one pen, Lamy Safari; yet I have seen a miriad of differnt results from my ink in other pens. Let me know hoe the Vector works out, was going to get it but opted for Lamy Safari, and I an now a Lamy fanatic, so that tells you how I like the pen.
