Mr Pen - Diamine Radiant Blue

Recommended Posts

I would love to know whether anyone has used this ink and how they found it. I can't find a review of it in the review section.

This is how it is described on the website (http://www.mrpen.co.uk/index1.html):

Radiant Blue - Blended by MrPen from Diamine Inks

If you are over forty you may remember Radiant Blue, a vivid blue ink that almost leaps off the page. We take a Diamine Blue and we add four drops of our special ingredient which brings the colour alive. This is the result.

I am well over 40 and live in the UK, but must admit I don't remember Radiant Blue.

I don't 'remember' it and am also well past my sell-by date! However, I've got it and used it but I don't appear to have scanned it yet so will do that tomorrow and post, with some comparisons. It's very similar to Diamine Royal Blue - which I think is the 'base' colour - and a bit like Noodler's Liberty's Elysium in a way.

It's certainly a good bright colour but some might find it less of a 'pop' that other inks out there. Personally; that suits me fine.

Thanks for posting this. I also have been very curious about this ink.

Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" Patrick Henry

As promised, some scans. The inks were 'written' a little while ago but the scans were freshly done today. As usual I used Safari pens with M nibs, dipped. The paper is Rhodia 80gsm.

Firstly, the Radiant Blue.

I reckon that Mr Pen uses Diamine Royal Blue as the base, but of course no-one will confirm that! Here's the Royal.

And finally just a couple of others for comparison.

Noodler's Blue.

And Noodler's Liberty's Elysium.

There are lots more that come close, I'm sure, and it's all down to the individual's 'eye' of course. However, I think there's sufficient difference in the Radiant Blue to make it well worth purchasing.

That's a nice blue and I think I'll add it to my order for a new red Parson's Essential.

Thanks, I've always been asking myself just how "radiant" it really is. I too would say D's Royal Blue, basically... but, IMO they should have added a lot more than just 4 drops of Twisted Spire.

Hi The Good Captain, Many thanks for taking the trouble to do these scans, it's very kind of you.

For the life of me my eyes can't distinguish between the Radiant and Royal Blue: they look the same to me.

I am in search of the grail blue and before I came across Radiant blue, I was leaning towards either the Diamine Majestic or Sapphire Blue. I think the Majestic may be too dark and the Sapphire too green. Radiant looks a bit light for me. I do like the Noodler Liberty Elysium, but it's expensive and I'm pretty sure you can't get it in the UK. [Carries on dithering....]

Funny you should mention that, I was just contemplating buying the red PE as well!

What nib have you ordered? Would be very interested in how you find it and what the burgundy colour is actually like when you have it in your mitt

I struggled to decide on the nib as there's so much choice but in the end I ordered a standard fine. They're not in stock until first week in December but there's 10% off if you order early. I already have a black PE medium and it's a favourite workhorse pen. I use it almost daily and it never lets me down. Wonderfully smooth.

ΟK, would be good to hear your experience of the burgundy. I'm tempted by the medium stub. That 10% discount is calling to me...

Now, I'd never thought of The Spire being added...

Yes - medium stub was my second choice. I understand it performs very well. Might be a review on here somewhere if you google it. And Peter Ford will exchange the nib within 30 days if you need to swap for something else.

I have a PE in medium italic and it is a great pen with a very smooth italic nib. I would love to see a sample from someone with the medium cursive stub.

Sir, you are a scholar and a gentleman! Thank you very much for that link. It looks a superb pen and a lovely smooth writer.

I accept the "scholar" but not the "sir" or "gentleman". Lady, possibly ;) And you are very welcome :-)

It does look a nice nib.
