New Diary.

As my usual P1JP diary from Letts is no longer made, I am thinking of using a pocket-size Moleskine. However, I would like to know if the paper in these is suitable for average fountain-pen ink. In my diaries, I use Parker or Waterman black and blue-black most of the time, in a 45-year-old Parker 45 with fine italic nib. This combination has been fine on Letts paper, so I am hopeful it would work on Moleskine paper as well. Any advice appreciated, thank-you.

Moleskin paper is usually terrible. I wouldn't buy anything Moleskin if I intended using a FP.

Waterman inks work for me. Moleskin notebooks aren't that bad.

Useful replies, thank you. Does anyone know, of any other page-to-a-day diaries, size around 120mm by 80mm width, or a bit bigger? I have not been able to find any other than Moleskine. Perhaps I should find a FP-friendly notebook, with around 200 leaves, may be easier.

I have been using small Moleskine cashiers everyday for notes and lists for the past four or five years. The paper works great, with no feathering. I generally use Pelikan Royal Blue or Lamy Blue- black. If it is the same paper in the diary you should have no issues.

Parker and waterman work fine with moleskines, not much bleedthrough, but a bit of showthrough.

Paperblanks Mini format sounds close to what you want, they are 100 x 140 and I love the paper in their journals (no bleedthrough at all, practically no showthrough), although they are slightly pricey. As you are in the UK u find that WHSmiths own brand diaries work well with fountain pens. I've been using them well for the past 3 years. They come in A5 and A6, day to a page and week to a page.
