Scabiosa

Just received my delicious supply of R&K inks from The Writing Desk UK. Along with other colours I bought R&H "Scabiosa" on the strength of a fellow FPNer' s posting. A million blessings be upon you; this ink is seriously ab fab (sorry, UK folk will know what I mean) gorgeous aubergine colour which slowly matures in front of your eyes.

Having wound you good folks up I now have to admit that I do not have a scanner so I am unable to demonstrate my visual delight.

So for the outlay of a mere 3.90 GBP (UK price) splash out and enjoy.

I must point out that this is an iron gall ink BUT R&K do say on their label "for fountain pens", I personally used the ink and then rinsed out the pen; call me chicken but......

I'd love to try this one, the color is beautiful.

Might be good for a Pelikan M250, where I can swap the nib out if dire things happen.

Scabiosa? I've never heard such a color before. I don't mean to be insulting, but the first thing I thought of when I saw that name was "scabies". What is the origin of this color name?

It's the name of a rather pretty flower. Not a very pretty name, I agree.

Scabiosa is a very common plant in Europe - Rohrer & Klingner are German manufacturers.

For some reason, in my head I always pronounced it ska-bee-oh-suh. That's probably wrong, is it scab-ee-oh-suh?

This color is very nice. My old scan doesn't do it justice...

I don't know if the "funky" smell is peculiar to Scabiosa or common to all the R&K inks

Cheers!

I guess it's the iron gall that gives the smell then...

blink.gif Oh, no Missis, no good. It's Latin, after all.

If you remember the pronounciation lesson about Lamy, the "Salami" works here also (actually very often for German or Latin).

Ska- (the 'a' like in the 'Sa' in Salami) -bi- (short 'i' almost like in sick) -o- (emphasized; like 'oh') -sa ( 'za' where the 'a' is like in the 'Sa' in Salami, but long).
