From up to down : the Stella 90's from Pilot / the white Sapporo (professional gear slim) / the white with pink gold trim Professinal gearfrom Sailor

The stella is pearly. And the cap is not screwed. It is heavy. It is wetter than the Sapporo.

I prefer the Sapporo.

I have the professional gear just since 1 week, so I can't compare to the others for the moment.

Hi,

I also like the Professional Gear. Mine is the slim-mini one though. The one in my avatar.

Don't own a Sailor yet, but I kind of like that pearly blue. (Saddly, I understand that it is discontinued now - can't find it anywhere online)

Since you are a Pilot lover too, could you please compare Pilot nibs to Sailor ones? Which brand do you prefer and why?
Is it because of the nib performance itself or the pen body too?

(you don't have to do photos or other complicated and time-consuming stuff, just give us your insight on how your pens feel)

Thanx in advance! :)

The pearly blue is discontinued but you can ask pensinasia if they still have it. When I want a discontinued pen it is what I do. He is a very good seller.

Pilot nibs vs Sailor nibs, there is no easy answer, to my point of view. There is the low end value and the high one.

I would rather compared each pen instead of each brand.

Here is my opinion for the pens :

- Capless from Pilot : I really love the fact there is no cap. Then at my office, there will be no risk that I damage the cap (falling from the desk from example) or that I "loose" it under stuff.

About the nib , it is good but not my favourite. I have some F, M and B. They have nothing special.

- Decimo from Pilot : Same opinion, because same nib, but I prefer it because the body is slimmer. I have small hand so I feel more confortable. But there is less choice for the colours

- Stella 90's from Pilot , M nib : it is too heavy for me and the nib is too wet. I will not buy more from this model

- Sapporo (professional gear slim) from Sailor in M and MF. I like the light weight. And the nib is just wonderful. The flow is perfect with those inks : Roher & Klinger / Iroshizuku. I didn't try others ink for the moment in them. Every time I used them, I really appreciate them. For me they are better than capless, Decimo and Stella

- Professional gear from Sailor in MF with sailor ink. the nib is a little better than Sapporo but I prefer the body of the Sapporo which is slimmer. I will buy again this model if I find color I like.

- I have 2 makie pens from Sailor : the Kimono beauty and the Butterfly, with M nibs; They are inked with Iroshizuku. They are beautiful and write well but I still prefered the nib from the Sapporo

- I have 2 Nippon art from Namiki, in M nib, inked with Iroshizuku. And those one are the best nib I ever tried. I don't have enough english word to describe them but they are my best ones.

So I can't say that I prefer Sailor or Pilot / Namik. It only depens of each pen, for the nib performance and the body together

Thanks for your answer! :)

I own and really enjoy the Pilot Prera and Metropolitan (same nib, but the pen body alters the feel quite a bit).

I figured that Pilot's gold nibbed pens will perform even better and I am considering the Decimo.

But then again, I have heard nothing but praises for the Sailor nibs. And that Sapporo looks kind of cute.

Chances are I'll end up buying both, but still I had to ask! :P

I've a black one, bought as a 'Sapporo' and a clear demo one, bought as a '1911 Professional Gear Slim'. I prefer the clear demo version but just on looks. And its MF nib!

I think it is hard to say whether the gold nib pens will perform better. They do feel different on the paper, but I think they are both excellent nibs. My favorite Pilot pen has a steel nib, and it's my favorite nib of all time.

About the Sailor vs. Pilot nibs, I also collect Japanese pens, and there are a few differences. Sailor pens often come with a feed that has more than one channel (some of the lower cost ones have a single channel feed though). Most of my Sailor pens have a three-channeled feed. Pilot pens typically come with a single channel feed. In general, my Sailor nibs and many of those I tried are set a little wetter than Pilot nibs. The line widths in comparison are quite similar in my experience. Pilot likes a more rounded nib tip and profile. Sailor tips have a slightly different feel, shape, and character. Some Sailor nibs have more of a foot. Personally, I think you should try both and see what you like. I really enjoy both my Pilot and Sailor pens. The Sailor extra-fine nibs are a very different experience from the Pilot ones, but I think they are excellent. I don't own a Sailor extra-fine anymore, but I do have a few Pilot extra-fine nibs. I do like the Sailor extra-fine nibs a lot though.

I hate Sailor. They keep introducing limited edition ProGear's not sold outside of Japan. Fortunately, I don't particularly like the recent ones.

i have a sapporo in wood. one of those sailor 'wood' series. though it's probably not called sapporo or professional gear. it seems slimmer than a regular sapporo.

Nausica, I really admire your collection of SAILOR Sapporo pens.
The new series of White Pro Gear looks really elegant.
My hands are quite big so I only have three SAPPORO (Pro Gear Slim) in my collection. That is why I prefer normal Professional Gear.
I heard that the Sapporo series is getting more limited these days in Japan. Because the new series Sigma is going to be released soon in Japan.
