Parker 51 Mk 3, Misaligned Cluth Finger

I have a Parker 51. In it's cap, one clutch finger is slanted to the left, which slightly inhibits capping performance. If it isn't too much of a bother, could someone tell me if and how can one go about fixing this in a sane, moderately safe way?

You should unscrew the plastic jewel by using a rubber gripping pad and some heat from a hairdryer, just to reveal the metallic clip screw. After removing this screw with a screwdriver the clip can be put apart and the inner cap will be loose. This inner cap holds the clutch fingers on place, so you will be able to remove the clutch to fix it. Reverse the procedure to mount the cap again.

 

You may need some tool to hold the inner cap while unscrewing the clip screw. I bought mine from eBay.

Take the cap to your local drug store/toothbrush isle.

 

Find the toothbrush who's non-brush end fits into the cap and snuggly into the inner cap. (Or a brush who's end can be trimmed down to fit snuggly.)

 

Nirvana may be a kiddies brush, rubber covered handle that fits snuggly untrimmed.

In all but the latest Parker "51"s, the inner cap does not hold the clutch fingers in place. The clutch is a separate piece, press-fitted into the cap shell. I recommend sending the pen to an experienced repairperson for this adjustment.

I had a Parker 51 cap where the clutch fingers were misaligned, I sent it to him and he fixed it. The turnaround time was very quick.

But going on the OP's description he does have the latter parker 61 type of finger clutch and not the earlier basket clutch.

You may be correct; I can't say for sure one way or another.

If I were going to attempt this sort of thing myself, I would practice on an old dented or otherwise junk cap first, if you have one. Otherwise I would send it off to be repaired.

 

I have tools to grip the cap jewel and hold inside the cap. I have quit messing with these except on caps I don't care so much about. I would send it out nowadays. And I have spare cap jewels.
