It's a fake. But out of the appearance .Hero Summer writes smoothly.

And this is not the Shanghai Hero but the Lishui Hero production.Shanghai Hero authorize Lishui Hero to produce Hero fountain pen ,but the quality of Lishui productions are even worse than Shanghai.[/size]

Technically, a 'fake' would also carry the Lamy name. This Hero Summer Colors is a copy, and not a bad pen, though somewhat lower in quality than the Lamy Safari.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Here is a Jinhao 15, which is very similar to the Waterman Serenite' without the curve. Personally I prefer the Jinhao shape, apart from the fact the Waterman Serenite' price range almost tops $1,000.

I bought this Jinhao 3 months ago and it writes flawlessly.

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,
The Pickwick, the Owl and the Waverley pen

Sincerely yours,

Pickwick

Humm...while the point is valid, are you sure you want to use these words here? "western ghost"

Let's keep this a friendly place :)

whoelse,

I am not going to explain why there are words auch as "western ghost" in chinese because this is not the topic of this forum. The "fake western ghost" is for those chinese people who take advantage of their foreign indentity. My previous post does nothing but point out the fact. I just directly tranlated the word, if my post made anyone feel uncomfortable, I apologize.

I am not an expert of fountain pen. I buy pen just because I like fountain pens. I buy hero or wing sung because they remind me my school life in China. I buy whatever I like as long as the pen is not an illegal copy.

To keep this a friendly place, I stop at here:)

This world comes from “The True Story of Ah Q ”(a famous short story by Chinese literature master LuXun.

I am Chinese but native Singapore for 3-4 generation so it didn't bother me but still..

If I read correctly, I think it is more a nation pride kind of thing, everyone, every country should be proud of themselves or product they produce. Very much like Japanese always support their own brands or take pride in their work to make it excellent and not trying to impose as some body else?

If that what you feel?

Now, back to pen topic. I am really interested in buying "THE" fountain pen that local will be proud of carrying it. So from the above conversation I guess it will be the Hero 100?

Whoelse,

It is not about people proud of their local product, it is just an honesty issue. No one like be cheated.

Hero 100 is a good pen even the QC is bad now. If you are looking for "THE" fountain pen that most people carry on, hero 616 and hero 329 may be the best choice. My every day carry on pen is a Wing sung 612A.

I have both 616 and 329 ^^ local stationary sold them here. Is the modern Hero 100 really that bad? Any picture to compare? Do they use same material but poor QC or they changed the material?

I can only answer your first question. I have 3 hero 100. I dont have old version of hero 100, but compare them to Guiguan 100, Wingsung 101 and 102, I probably will choose Wingsung 101 or 102. The hero 100 is not as bad as you think. One of my hero 100 can write perfect fine wet line while the second can write same line as the first one except I am never able to fill ink to more than half of the sak. The third one write a little bit dry. General speaking, they are good writer.

is duke actually still keeping that "german" image up in china?

one would think that they have changed that marketing strategy, since their german (letterbox) company "german duke lux pen gmbh" doesn't exist anymore ... for quite some time now. it has been removed from the german company registry on 23/12/2011 due to lack of funds.

which of course doesn't make any practical difference ... but for marketing purposes it would certainly look a lot more trustworthy if their german company actually existed ;)

I'd wager Duke is about as German as my Honda Civic. Picasso is one of the highest quality brands to come out of China, bar none.

what do you want to know about Chinese fountain pen

Dear Mr. Wuhao,

thank you for being so helping. I visit China port cities on my ship once in 2~3 months. I buy a lot of Chinese pens over e-bay and also locally when I go there. But language problem makes it difficult !

I find it fairly easy to buy complete pens over the counter. But to buy pen parts, comes the problem- I want to buy nibs, feeders, clips and pen making kits from China for making my hobby pens. I am aware these are available in the local Chinese internet, but those come in Chinese language-out of bounds for foreigners. Can you guide me how to buy these ?

Best regards

Soumitra
