A Dip Pen From Calicut

Hi fiends,

Here is a dip pen made by Kim and Co. I have not seen a dip pen before. No cap, no feed.

Once dipped in ink remains on a curvature under the nib. At least two or three lines can be written before ink finishes of. And may be more if I am getting an ink formulated for dip pens.

On nib it is written as

456

MACNEVAN & CAMERON

GOLD WING

BIRMINGHAM

ENGLAND.

Any idea about this nib? Kim people told that this nib is at least 50-60 years old.

Thanks,

Mohan.

In the Netherlands, and, by extension, in its colonies, in the 50s and 60s for sure, you learned to write with a pen like that, once you had the basics with a pencil. There are some very ornate ones, too. There are many threads on FPN that discuss them, if you're interested.

In an attack of nostalgia, I recently picked up a modern, cheap, wooden one, and some nibs, at a local stationery store. But I can see why I was happy to graduate to fountain pens in grade 4...

Mesu,

Its ebonite. On seeing this pen my mother told that they used to write pens like this. Later she changed to "a big Parker which is red in colour".I think it may be a Doufold.
