Inkleaf Leather Moleskine Volant Notebook Covers

Hi Guys,

 

I thought some of you would be interested to see the Moleskine Volant covers my wife and I are making now. We have them in four colors of Horween Chromexcel (Natural, Brown, Burgundy and Leaf) and also in natural veg tan. I like these quite a bit personally because it makes for a truly pocketable notebook given the size of the volant itself. You can also use the left side flap as a sort of simple wallet. As always everything is hand stitched with waxed Irish linen thread. The dimensions are 3" x 4 5/8" when closed and 6/18' x 4 5/8" when closed. They are really nice! The leather is pretty but they look incredibly solid - the kind of thing that can take a beating and come out looking better, not worse

 

I especially love the detail of how the left flap is only stitched down on two sides, for stashing things in. It's so simple that it's there if you need it, but doesn't get in the way if you want to use it as a cover only and nothing else.

 

One thing though: why are the flaps so wide? Wouldn't making them just a touch narrower add functionality by making it possible to use both as pockets including from the side, but without making the cover less secure?

Thanks for the kind words about our work! The reason for the wide flaps is to act as a solid writing surface. If it were narrower you'd run the risk of having to write over a bump in the middle of the page. We could of course always do a custom sized flap if someone wanted it.

Bogie it looks really nice. I can't use moleskine paper, it just bleeds too much for me. Do you think your wallet would fit a clairefontaine pocket sized notebook, which is 3 by 4 inches?

I think it'd be too small for the Clairefontaine since the volant is 2.5" x 4", but if there was demand enough (Say, 5-10 people) we'd be happy to do a custom batch.

The Sidebound Rhodia and Clarefontaine from Brother Brian and Sister Rachel are 3 " x 4.75".
