Beautiful work, as usual, Michael. I must say I'm being sorely tempted...

Are you thinking of selling it?

Hi William

I usually make things to order.

I wanted the flap to serve two purposes one to keep the case closed and another to allow the open case to stand upright.

I am not happy with this case the flap is too thin, I also increased the distance between the two sets of pen holders which does not look right either.

I will go back to the start today and have another try.

Thanks for the comments

Michael

I will, Michael - as soon as I know that myself. So far it's just a very general inkling. When it takes a more definite shape I will be in touch.

The problem is starting to be a space to display even a small, upright pen case like this one.

Here is the old outer and the replacement

The outer is made from Kip leather and is soft to the touch because of the kydex liner some of the softness is lost so with that in mind I am going to try adding some bag makers batting between the layers.

This five pen case has been more difficult to make than I thought it would be it is made from soft leather inside and out which made it very flexible

I have hidden some elastic two thirds of the way down the case to allow small pens to be carried safely

Thanks for looking

Michael

What a beauty.

And the blue case is handsome, too.

What do you think about making a pen tray (to go inside a cigar box) out of leather? Is there a leather thin enough that will still form and could be used as a tray? Just a thought as I love the look of these, but I have numerous cigar boxes that I need to make pen boxes out of.

I am totally loving your work. (Really looking forward to seeing the quiver, lol.)

That sounds like an interesting idea, I think it would depend on the size of the tray required.

I have been planning on making a square box for some time but it requires a special sewing clam time to visit the timber yard.

Could it be done inside of an already existing wooden box, such as one a very nice cigar box? Because it's already in a box, I wouldn't think you would need the "bullet proofing", as it would be relatively protected? No? I defer to the master...

I think you are talking about a removable tray in leather if that is what you mean then yes I think it is possible.

I am learning by watching this chap on you tube I have added a link to his box making video below

I have chatted with via email and he is very nice, the round case was inspired by him as well. If you watch the video you will see the special sewing clam he uses for corners my oak will be ready for Saturday.

If you do want to have a go I would be happy to help if I can
