Making A Pen Case

Recommended Posts

As I mentioned in the last post I was not too happy with the cover for the notebook so I turned the leather around and it became the inside lining.

I have cut a new piece of leather for the outside I wet folded one edge I then inserted the edge of the inner piece into the folded edge and applied pressure.

The next step was to wet the two pieces and formed them around the notebook

After forming the two pieces around the notebook I clamped the edges being careful that the book did not pop out under the pressure.

While these pieces were drying I started to trim the edges or the pen slots

Thanks for looking

Hi Kiavonne

Thanks

All this case needs is a couple of coats of wax and someone to love it.

Hi GTOZack

I am sure it would be possible to add decorations into the process however I am going to stick with the plain ones for the moment.

The inner suede has been glued in place

I had some problems fitting the inner with kydex and then the outer leather into my mold so the leather was molded separately and then glued to the other pieces.

Here we have all of the components waiting for assembly

The three pen and notebook case for Alc3261 is coming along nicely.

The original design had two pieces folding together like a book with some sort of strap to act as a closure, I struggled with the closure and eventually came up with a different design with the help of my wife,

The case is now split into three pens to the right and notebook in the middle left hand piece as the closure the cover will be held in place by a magnetic bag catch.

All of the edges need to be trimmed then I am ready to start dying the areas that can only be reached before assembly.

Thanks for looking

I have just read through your entire thread and am completely overwhelmed by these beautiful cases and your skill and determination. I think I will have to one day PM you to make one for me! Just completely amazing, fabulous work. :notworthy1:

I especially love the protection of the Kydex and the integrated loop to hold smaller pens and am eager to see how your multipen cases are coming along.

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

Thanks agchristie I enjoy making the cases they are not as expensive as they look :)

I have been working on the red ten pen case today the black case is on hold while I await delivery of some bridle leather.

I find the red dye quite difficult to apply to my satisfaction I like the colours to be solid although the supplier tells me if the leather has been formed it is very difficult to get even coverage.

I also had two single cases which I dyed at the same time

I took these pictures about ten minutes after dying so the leather was still wet.

Thanks for looking

Here are the two single pen cases I have dyed today as you can see one is already sewn together and the other is not the finished one is off to the USA when finished the second does not have a home as yet I don't normally make anything without an order however I like the red and I want to try a contrasting thread The black and red looked really good as did the blue and red.

The first of this pair is on its way to its new home as I type I have a dilemma with the second one

Too many threads I like the idea of the contrast so I have discounted the red,

So the choices are gold black and white holes are punched needles are ready I just cant decide which colour.

Any help would be appreciated

I am kind of leaning toward the gold - my old high school colors, lol. The black, of course, would be a beautiful contrast. The white would be my third choice, but it would be bright and pop, I think.

Thank you for my black and red case! It fits my Danitrio Mikado surprisingly well. Sorry, not the best photos in this lot.

That's indeed a very nice case, with the stud to close it.

Michael, while I like contrasting colors well enough, I don't see why you would rule out the red thread. In your photograph it does contrast strikingly with the dark red of the leather! With regard to gold or white, I'd be worried that the thread would get dirty with use... more so than the red.

But I'm sure that whatever color you choose, the result will be beautiful...

Thank you for taking the time to respond maybe I should make one of each.

While I was pondering this dilemma I was asked if I could make a round case I have been asked before but I cannot remember where

Anyway if I was to make one I would start with a 21 mm dowel and round the end over.

Then cut a piece of leather like this

12863943913_71aaa6a2ef_o.jpg

IMG_6743_1 by my0771, on Flickr

Then sew it together

IMG_6746 by my0771, on Flickr

Keep sewing until you have this

I forgot to mention I wet the leather before wrapping it around the dowel

I don't think I can form kydex into a cylinder unless I finish my vaccumm forming box and make it in two halves.

Thanks for looking and thanks to those who posted
