Fantastic cases! It would be great to see one of these for two pens, a "twin" case ;-)

Hi Michael,

As promised, pictures of some of my work. I've never done a pen case before, but I knocked up a prototype quickly just for you (well, and because I urgently needed a pen case!). It's a bit rough because I'm just trying to figure out the design aspects at the moment, but you get the idea :)

Keep up the excellent work!

Joe

Thanks for posting pictures Joe I think your design is pretty good I have found the more I make the better they get before i had a tool to mark out the stitches I used masking tape to mark off the stitches.

If i can help in any way just ask. (other than sending you bags of used £5 notes as my Dad used to say)

Fantastic cases! It would be great to see one of these for two pens, a "twin" case ;-)

I cant see a problem making a twin pen case but as the leather is expensive I would only make it if someone asked me to make it for them.

I am already looking at a triple case maybe as part of a note book cover.

And of course I am in the process of making a case for ten oversize pens which is going to be fantastic........ I hope :) :)

Thanks

Michael

Thanks Michael, I might have to get you to grab me some leather from leprevo at some point haha ;)

I'm still working on the design, though I understand the faults and can fix them in the next version. I've offered my next pen case as a gift in the Pay It Forward thread, check it out if you're interested!

Hi Joe

I was not trying to tell you how to work with leather I was just offering support.

I applaud you offering a pen case on the PIF thread I have given away many of my projects but I prefer to select the recipients myself it is just my way.

Are you planning on using chrome tan or veg tan leather.

I am looking forward to seeing how your design developes.

My next project is going to be a case for ten oversize pens you may remember I made a template from card

The mould are now complete and i have formed the first piece for the first case it has taken a few hours to get the leather to do what I wanted it to do I cant leave the two pieces of the mould together for too long as it may mark the leather

The next stage in the multi pen case is to form the second piece in the mould which I have now completed and it looks like this,

The dowels are showing where the pens would go a front and back piece will be to be fitted after a suede lining has been added.

Thanks for looking

Thanks Kiavonne

I have realised that the last picture may not have been clear well is was not entirely clear to me so I think the next pictures will resolve that.

I hope this also shows how the to halves will interlock with each other when the case is closed.

Pens in their individual slots these slots are deep 185 mm I do t know wether the slots should be closed off the the case is folded which seems logical or if a space should be left not so logical.

I might need to come up with a way to assist the pens out of these deep slots my first thought is a loop of suede 1 cm wide attached inside the slot at the back looping down to the bottom and ten back to the top with a small piece of elastic fixing it at the bottom, when the pen is in the slot the tab could be pulled lifting the pen up and returned to its place by the elastic. I need to make a model to check if it would work.

I have left a piece of leather to form a handle but have not decided to have a handle or not.

Thanks for looking

The multi pen case is developing nicely i like to have more than one project going at a time so here is the next project.

A case to hold a notebook and three fountain pens.

I decided the best place to start was with the notebook and then work out the configuration

Here are three Kydex blanks sitting ontop of the notebook the notebook will be sitting in a pocket inside the case and the pens in individual slots.
I mentioned in the previous post I am looking for a way to prevent small pens becomming lost in the long slots my previous method was to complex I am now thinking of putting a piece of suede across the slot 25 mm down from the top of the slot so the pen can be clipped to it.
Any thoughts anyone

As long as the suede strip is sturdy and won't give under the pressure of a tight clip, it should probably work.

What about cutting a "U" shape in the top from the edge to allow grasping a shorter pen? The closure, if there is one, would have to be anchored below the cutout.

This will show you right away that I am just classless and cannot be taken anywhere - my first thought, when I have a situation like this, is to stuff toilet roll in the bottom.

I suppose if I want to be elegant, I can use bits of cloth.

In either case, it's a matter of filling up the bottom till whatever it is - usually double point knitting needles in my case - can be grabbed at the top.

You solutions are all much more elegant.

I am looking for something as simple as stuffing the bottom with tissue you are right.

I needed to look at the simple options using what was there and not adding anything else

Here is my favourite for the moment

Two small cuts to the inside

Pull out the tab

And insert the pen

This looks like a simple solution to the problem when not being used it can just be folded back into the inside of the liner.
Thanks for looking and the input it is appreciated

I have been asked to make a case to hold three pens and a notebook there are a couple of options this is one of them, the notebook will sit in a pocket and the pens will be enclosed in kydex and leather.

Here is a mock up of the first option

IMG_6434_1 by my0771, on Flickr

The second option will be the same except the pocket would be replaced by a slot for the front or back cover to slide into.

Thanks for looking

You may have trouble closing the case due to the bulk of the kydex pen holders, Michael.

Thanks Fuchsiaprincess your question is a good one
I hope that I have a solution for that problem I have a wide back and the front cover will be reinforced 2 mm thick leather lined with a thinner leather inside.

At the moment I am trying to work out the covers for each pen holder, magnets are one possibility, sam browne studs in between the pen holders or a simple strap.

This may be impractical....but I wonder if you pushed the 3 Kydex forms together and moulded the leather over the top of all 3, so you'd see the outline of 3 tubes but it would be one piece with 1 flap closing all 3.

Do you see what I mean or am I being as clear as mud??
