Diamine Blaze Orange looks great in my TWSBI Mini, I didn't think I'd like the ink as I thought it would be too light but took a chance on it and I'm loving it. It glows in the pen when light hits it and on paper it's a decent tone and very readable, I use it for sketching as well and have found I can build quite dark tones with it :)

I love turquoisey blues in my demos. Currently, I have Akkerman Passage Blauw in a Pilot Prera iro-ai and a Noodler's Ahab filled ED-style with Noodler's Navajo Turquoise. I love it when the sun just catches the pen.

I'm glad you thought of Noodler's Dragon's Napalm. I had it in a demonstrator and it looked amazing.

As for the scented inks, your mileage may vary. I haven't found too many I can actually smell while writing. Luckily, I discovered this through samples. Others report enjoying the scent while they write.

Thoughts?

I'd just be a little careful with the Nalpalm and Nikita. I haven't done any tests on the inks themselves, so I don't know what dyes they are using. There's a high likelihood that you would be fine, but just take care and don't put them in any expensive demonstrator/skeleton pens you may be using before you try them in other lower cost pens first.

I have 3 Pelikan demo:

1005 with MB Alfred Hitchcock. Edelstein Ruby stained it much to my horror.

800 with Edelstein Jade, but it stains. I will change to Pelikan Brown when I get it.

800 with Pelikan Violet.

Cheers,

Erk at the Cosmos ;P You might as well go with Yama-Budo at that point ;P

I have Qin Shi Huang in a TWSBI 580, and that's as far into the pink realm as I'm willing to go.

Did buy some Noodler's Dragon Pink for one of our gals at the office who uses pink highlighters to cross off items on her to-do lists. Also got a pink Preppy to go with it. Ugh, that's stuff's like Pepto-Bismol. Also got some Hellfire, but I think it's a bit purple. Also snagged some Rachmaninoff as an alternative.

I generally like darker inks, inks that have gravitas.

The original reason for considering the demonstrator was I wanted a new pen for when I'm having an anxiety attack - I'm hoping that the bright ink might help me snap back into focus a little.

Hi,

If you like, these are a few inks that look really cool in a demonstrator, Diamine Hope Pink, Diamine Claret, a turquoise of some kind (most are non-staining), Diamine Jade Green (a very cheery apple green), Diamine Soft Mint, Pelikan Brilliant Green, and Pelikan Violet.

If you want something lighter and brighter and more transparent in the pen, the Diamine Hope Pink, Diamine Jade Green (use this in a pen with a medium nib or broader), Diamine Soft Mint, and a turquoise of some kind are very nice picks. Also, since you are in the UK, Diamine might be a nice choice since it's more local. I'm across the pond, and I purchase loads of Diamine inks since it behaves very well in my fountain pens and has a plethora of excellent colors. In addition, their customer service is exemplary and they listen to suggestions and observations about their inks. I even penned them a letter to thank them the last time I had to exchange some ink, and they wrote back via email.

I must admit that I've never had a pen help with an anxiety attack. Of course, I don't use bright and cheery colors either. Tried Momiji, Chiku-Rin, Ama-Iro, Kon-Peki, and Shin-Ryoku. None of them provided the gravitas that I want in an ink. I only use "bright" inks for special things such as document marking. And, for that I have a bottle of Poppy Red from Diamine and a bottle of Qin Shi Huang from Noodlers. Also have a bottle of Empire Red that I'll put to use at some point. For green markings, I have darker colors: Bad Green Gator; Green Marine; Sherwood Green.

Seriously though, Tsuki-Yo looks really, really good in a demo.

My anxiety gets set off when I feel overwhelmed, uncomfortable, or overly restricted - bright colours seem to help so we're gonna try bright inks!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

amberleadavis - Great Photo! Would you be willing to type a listing of all of these inks? –I can't read all of them. –Thanks!

So are Iroshizuku inks considered safe in demonstrators? I would have expected Yama-budo to potentially stain so I was surprised to see it listed here.

I've been waiting for a topic like this ever since I put a particular ink in a demonstrator. Sadly, the demonstrator in question yellowed within days of my purchase, so I won't provide a photo.

But, the ink itself is Noodler's Mata Hari's Cordial. It's a gorgeous opaque purple, and the ink itself is vaguely lavender. I love it. In the demonstrator, it's beautiful purple. I wish I didn't have the yellowed demonstrator to hold it because it was gorgeous when I inked up the pen. Luckily, the important part, the ink, is still gorgeous.

To me, a demonstrator ink has to look good in the pen and on paper.

A few runners up:

  • Noodler's Red Fox
  • Noodler's Apache Sunset
  • Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo

GeekyGirl, Those pictures are old now. I write with my pens a lot and enjoy them. If you get a chance, look at the Show Us thread and see some great pens in use. It's now on page 255 and 7,634 replies.

This ink actually looks GREAT but my photo stinks (Dromgooles Blue Steel).

Mixing Noodler's Whiteness of the Whale with an ink makes it opaque in a clear pen body, for a striking effect in a demonstrator. Naturally, it affects saturation on paper. It's quite a striking effect to eye-drop WotW into a clear ink -- one of my favorites is adding it to Noodler's Yellow.

Pelikan Mandarin looks spectacular on a demonstrator but might be too light for you (not for me though), as do lighter inks such as Chiku Rin and Ama Iro, both of which are plenty readable.
