Vintage Parker 51S: Ink Dos And Don'ts ....

I currently have Noodler's Purple Heart in my Plum 51 Aero with no issues at all. Mind you, it's not one of the more "esoteric" Noodler's inks (I think it's maybe listed as being a lubricating ink). Previously I had PR Ebony Purple in that pen (but that was both very wet and somewhat cloggy); and Diamine Eclipse before that.

I did have some trouble with Noodler's Manhattan Blue in the Teal Aero, but have, since getting the pen repaired last year, used other inks (most recently Sailor Jentle Sky High, which stained the heck out of the sac but was well behaved otherwise).

Don't use the 51 Special as much as some of my other pens; in my notes I find that I thought Noodler's Liberty's Elysium was a bit dry in that pen, but that De Atramentis Dante Alighieri [Ruby Red] worked well.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

It's lubricated but has no other properties (like waterproof, bulletproof, eternal, etc), basically the same properties as the Eel inks (minus Black which is bulletproof/waterproof).

I expect that a vintage pen will write with almost any current ink. My normal inks are Iroshizuku Asa-gao (most beautiful ink and well-behaved), Diamine Sapphire, Edelstein Topaz/Saphire mix (in flimsy Office Max "Bizright" notebooks, PR Lake Placid Blue, plus some unusual mixes. (I disliked the Edelstein at first...but it's not so bad).

I have a bottle of Parker Quink Royal blue old enough that it has the art-deco bottle with a plastic cap. Mixed 50:50 with PR DC Supershow Blue. Another bottle of old Parker blue-black (the dark blue with no trace of teal) mixed with Diamine Midnight Blue.

No problems with Noodlers ordinary inks. I don't need the Noodler's inks that "guard" against something Noodler's calls "check washing". No reason to have special a "bond with paper and clothing" ingredient to protect against an obsolete threat. Other Noodlers inks seem safe.

Has anyone used Sailor nano particle inks in a 51 before? its going to be an edc, so the ink will flow everday. (The kiwa guro and the sei boku inks)

Thanks!
