I've got one and agree with the dragon666's review above :)

It is a beautiful pen to use, mine is fitted with a lovely, smooth Fine nib. (Faber-Castell steel nibs are brilliant: I also have an Ambition with the same Fine nib. Both are wonderful to write with.) The pen can be quite heavy though, after a while, when posted with the cap, but just flies along unposted:) The grip section really is much more comfortable than it looks and I have largish hands. I normally use much slimmer pens. The wooden barrel feels great, the edges aren't really too sharp at all and I really do like the chrome/wood combination. My barrel is not as "reddish brown" as the pictures above, but still very nice. (It's a natural product after all.) I chose this one, because of the chrome grip: I just thought it was aesthetically more pleasing on the eye and I like the wood contrast, that will patina with age.

I got mine from Cult pens, last December, using the Xmas 10% voucher. ie £94 (I used half of the saving to buy into their "Pens for Kids" by Staedtler appeal.) I would have been happy to pay the full £104 price.

I heartily recommend this pen as being a quality instrument, worth that, "Wee bit extra to spend on a pen and be really quite impressed with the whole experience of owning it!" vibe. Kudos to Faber-Castell for this design.

Enjoy using your pen and thanks for a great review.

I agree the nib is super smooth, seems they use the same nibs on everything from the more expensive Ondoro down to the BASIC. So between all of them, just seems like you're paying for the body/cap. (and converter which apparently you got, but not all the models come with one)

Thanks for the review. I have always been intrigued by the GvFC and FC pens. I had a basic which I have since misplaced but never found the balance to be good. Also the value of the pens never appealed to me in the past.

However of late I have been looking at their wooden pens (Ambition and ondoro) with envy and would like to try one. The ondoro does not appeal to me as much as the ambition cocos does. I suspect if I find a great deal, I will pick one up.

I have a couple of Ondoro model pens and indeed, find the fine point steel nibs are exemplary for their smoothness...just about as good as one can imagine. I do like the oak and will buy one today!

May you and those you love, be always blessed with peace and never ending joy.

How is the wood part taking the wear and tear?. This is in view of the pen having a friction based cap system and the hexagon lines have sharp edges..

Has started using it. No starting trouble - just started writing without any problem. The Fine steel nib is smooth with no tooth or skipping issues. One of the best pen in my small collection. The feel of wood is great and unique in hand and it also has a nice weight but well balanced without posting. Strongly recommended.

Thanks for the wonderful review , I went ahead to purchase one ( smoked oak version :D ) after reading your article and many great review/comments on Faber Castell Ondoro FP. I got the M-Nib where run a much thinner line than Pelikan's M800 Fine Nib. just perfect for my daily note taking use.

This is going to be one of my F-C collections joining Guillose and Basic . Cheers..... Raymond

My oak/chrome Ondoro has been my most frustrating pen by far. It never starts up, period. Deoress the converter a little and it'll go off to the races, but even after < 24 hours without use, no flow. I've switched nibs/sizes, switched converters, opened the tines and feed channel, and tried st least twelve of the wettest inks I can find. I'd toss this wretched pen except I still love the look and feel, when it writes, it writes well, and..I'm on a quest for success. Any recommendations welcome!

Beautiful pen.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I've been so tempted by this pen for such a long time... But I'm actually unsure whether I want the (tacky) orange finish or something classier.

Great review. Certainly tempted.

Yes. I've recently moved from academia to an "office" field and am trying to find snap/slip-cap pens for taking notes at work. My favorites so far are a Sheaffer 444, a couple of Preras, and a Lamy 2000. This one is firmly on the radar for my next purchase, but I can't decide if I should get the oak (the chrome section makes me leery) or the brown/black. I find ORANGE to be a bit... much. I love my pens short and fat, so I'm hoping that an Ondoro be a work-friendly pen with a similar ergonomic profile as my Sailor Pro-Gear. Some day when I have gobs of extra money I'm going to spring for a Pilot Sterling with the turtles. But that is not this year.

Yet another Sarah.

Go black. Matt or gloss.
