The Edelstein Question ?

Hello. Hope all are well. Not sure if I should be here or Inky Thoughts. Anyway. I purchased th Pelikan Edelstein Amber 2013 Ink of the Year and was wondering what others who may have bought this ink think of it ? I primarily bought it for two reasons: Edelstein's inks reputation for quality and it being Ink of the Year. I know: petty reason...To be honest, this ink was so-so and didn't do much for me. Yes, it wrote well, was saturated, good shading, etc...If anyone would like to share their experience with me and others, it would be greatly appreciated...Thanks again, LeRoy

I feel quite the same about this ink. I recently got a Conway Stewart in Amber colored acrylic and thought the Pelikan Amber should look nice in it but turns out I'm not a fan (though Herbin's Ambre de Birmanie wasn't much better... Maybe it's just not my kind of color, I don't know).

 

The color reminds me of dried Papaya rather than amber, also in my opinion the flow is average at best as is the shading. I don't know if it will get much use after this filling is used up.

Too little contrast for me, I'm afraid. I've used and like their Tanzanite a lot.

I like the Amber. But, I've also discovered that the Edelstein inks do not play well in all pens, especially more flexy pens.

 

On good paper, the Amber makes a nice brownish color with nice shading. On cheap paper, it's more disappointing because it shows a greenish-blue component that I don't like.

I love it. Otherwise I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of reviewing it (sorry).

Hi there,

I have used Edelstein Amber a lot and absolutely love it. It glides on paper and shades beautifully, even with a Sailor M nib, which is quite on the fine side of M.

Curiosity: it makes a lovely page when accented with black (really!). The ink equivalent of a cashmere sweater
