Do You Use A Pencil Case?

I don't use a pencil case as I only carry a few pens /stationary items at uni which are;

In the pen loops/ pocket of my satchel;

A Staedtler text surfer (yellow)

A Staedtler Mars plastic Rubber

A rotring 500 0.7 mechanical pencil

A Lamy blue logo ballpoint (very occasionally a ballpoint pen is useful)

A Parker green Reflex (inked up with Waterman green always)

Then one nice fountain pen (any one from my collection) in a Parker single pen case.

The reason why I carry so few pens is I am always a little worried if I was to carry more I would be have a greater chance of loosing one as at the moment I am able to see clearly if one has fallen or been taken out of my bag. I just really don't want the night mare of loosing one of my favourite pens to become reality this is why I'm so cautious

Ok here goes... Made this yesterday from scrap. Not exactly a pencil case but has a small pocket for carts and a small notepad. My first attempt at using a sewing machine and my first pen roll! Completely quilted construction with foam padding inside so the pens are protected. :-)

The closest I have come to a pencil case is this Raymay case. I just have a thing about my pens touching. I don't like it. They need to be isolated from each other to prevent scratching. Apologies for the psuedo advert but it is the only picture I have of it from an old review of mine. My daughter has since taken over the case. She does keep her fountain pens in it and it shows. :D

A very nice and compact pen roll, Sub! It serves as a good reference when I make mine. Thanks for sharing! :)

I totally understand the fear of losing precious pens ! I lost a very basic sheaffer, which cost me around a dollar (this would have been when I was in high school), when my entire pencil case went missing ... oh the pain! :(

Yes, I use a pencil case, mostly to carry my Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils, which van get messy. And other everyday sketch tools. It's a Cubix Round Zip Pencase. It's in the lower lefthand corner of this pic:

That's really nifty. I carry sketching pencils around with me and that looks ideal.

That's handy! Your Midori Traveler Notebooks look nice too, time has give them a ruggedness which is unusually attractive.

Thanks. If you take all the pencils out of the righthand side of the case, that skinny Academy watercolor box just barely fits into the slot. (Also, I sewed in those two pieces of elastic at the top of the right side pencil slot to help hold them more secure. Easy. Just a few stitches.)

I think I have about 20 pencils in there. Hold on a sec....whoa. There are 24 of 'em in there!

I love my Traveler and Passport. They do get beat up a bit! But I agree that it makes them more beautiful.

Long answer:

(if you dont care for the long answer, scroll down for the short answer)

10+ years Ago I got a Beautiful Montegrappa Privilege FP. A heavy six-sided pen covered in .925 Sterling Silver with only a few areas of green acrylic showing. One fine day, I reached down to pick my kid and the clip of the pen was not able to hold its weight in my shirt pocket .. slipping and falling down directly on top of a smooth round rock! The edge of the cap, exposed green acrylic, chipped and got a small crack.

Now one of my finest pens is cracked (barely noticeable) and ever since that day I have been using a leather pouch to carry my pens in my pocket. Have to say.. MORE THAN ONCE the pouch has made a wonderful job protecting pens that have eventually found their way to the floor... and falling down safely without damage.

Short answer:

A leather pouch.
