Do You Use A Pencil Case?

Rob - that's not like you! I had you down as super-organised ;-) Glad you're looking after the Micartas. They deserve cosseting.

My organised self is unfortunately often very narrowly focussed. I fuss like mad and get a bit OCD about things that "matter" and the rest gets rather neglected ;)

I am curbing my pen and ink buying spree at the moment by ordering clutch pencils from CultPens instead - only two "so far" ... Which means the "rest" is going to become as important as my FPs in the very near future.

Oh dear... Why, oh why did I join this cursed forum! :lticaptd:

Ah yes - you're a clutch pencil fan aren't you :-) I've been buying some mechanical pencils from CultPens like this one

Such good value for money, great designs & they go nicely in my pencil cases :)

I have several pencil cases and currently I'm using this one to store a few Lamys, a mini TWSBI and a Pelikan 200, but I don't carry it around.

Hema, I'm thinking about stitching myself a FP holder too (as I have to make one for my crochet hooks). Thanks for your inspiration! :)

Hi Tracy,

Thanks so much! I'm sure you'll make a beautiful FP holder :) send us a few pictures when you're done. Love the red lamy with the yellow clip!

Nice! But just way toooooo skinny ;)

I still haven't taken the plunge over and above 2mm leads YET... But the following keep trying to sneak into my basket when I am not looking:

I love how crafty people are here! It really is like coming home ;)

My pens live in a home-made roll:

This is The Big Roll, but I also have a smaller one with 7 slots that is my daily carry.

I just wanted to encourage anyone who thinks they can't sew to give it a go - all you need is running stitch (in, out, in, out... &c) and patience. And fabric, of course.

Dear Inkysloth,

Right you are!! It really is like coming home ! Love your case.... was fun trying to guess the upside down words... "presumed innocent"... am I right??

Nice! But wayyyyy too chunky hee hee. I love the colours of the barrels though.

I'm considering putting a small bet on you being unable to resist that order next week. After all they have a special offer on Koh-I-Noor at the mo. LOL

Yes, an old Lamy aluminium tin that came with my L2000 that I bought a few years ago. It has a nice slim profile, and serves its purpose very well.

Finally, a pic of my daily user pen, the Aurora 88. Just for kicks :P

I have the same kind of case, and I was thinking about putting together a good sketching set. I think that I'm going to use bubble wrap as well to make sure everything stays safe. Thanks for the idea!

There's something about FP users. They seem to be endowed with extra generous helpings of creativity :-)

I use an orange pencil case bought from Staples. It makes sense as I can put it in my bag and know that I've got my pencils, sharpeners and pens in there, along with my A5+ notebooks.

I haven't dared put my lacquered pen in as I'm afraid that the sharpeners and metal stuff will scratch it, but the metal & acrylic pens go in.

No worries. It's not the best looking, but it does the job more than adequately. I put that bubble wrap in around 2 years ago, and haven't had to change it.

Just to point out, there's actually two levels of bubble wrap, one which just covers the bottom of the case upon which I place the compass. Then there's another layer which covers the compass, and the stuff you see in the picture lies on this second layer so that the compass is hidden (I don't need to use it quite as often as the other things in the case), and the wrap is large enough so that it can curl over the top.

Mine's made out of a recycled tyre, it's great for cushioning your pens/pencils.

I was thinking about making my own pen roll - an old pair of jeans sounds like a great idea for the material.

I have a pink and clear Hello Kitty plastic pencil case with a zipper (a gift from a penpal FPNer - Thanks, Rick!). It is full of my Pilot VPen White Eraseable FPs. There are seven colors, and I have several different brands of eraser pens in there too. I intend to keep these together forever in this pencil case.

Temporarily, there are also three "nice" fountain pens in there which are filled with other brands of eraseable inks. The case mostly sits on my desk, and makes a very limited number of very short trips when I plan to write letters. So I'm not concerned about wear on the nicer pens. They'll come out of there when I have written everyone I know to rave about eraseable inks. Unfortunately, noone seems interested except me. But I digress.

Thanks!

The leather is indeed very supple. But, it stains very easily, esp. with water. I don't mind, but some might find it irritating, even unacceptable.

You may want to apply a light coat of mink oil to the leather. Leave it on for a few minutes, then buff it. It *can* darken the leather, but it will help to repel stains.

ETA: I *love* the Sonnenleder line! I crave one of the "Nietzsche" cases badly.
