Terry Johnson, Creator Of Private Reserve Ink, Has Passed Away

I feel really bad now. I had bought a pen from Terry J here on FPN about a month ago. What I got was not what had been described and I felt rather cheated. I tried contacting him several times and got no response at all.

So here I've been grumbling about him and he probably didn't answer because he was ill.

I wish it hadn't turned out the way it did. I didn't know he was the same person who was behind private reserve. I wish I had been able to tell him that I've enjoyed using his inks.

<sigh>

Hi FPN,

I have sad news to share. Terry Johnson, the founder of Private Reserve Ink, passed away yesterday morning after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Please say a prayer for his family in this difficult time.

As for the inks, it was his wish that Private Reserve continue on after him, and so it will. I am not sure if there will be any kind of delays in production as his family and employees work to figure things out, but I just thought you'd all want to know what's going on.

He was a good guy. He will be missed.

Oh my god. Ty for letting us know. Black cherry and daphne blue are two of my favourite shades.

I woke up this morning thinking about opening my new bottle of PR Purple Mojo so that I could fill up my pink Safari and see how I like the combination...I had no idea until checking in on FPN and finding this thread, that the person who was inspired to develop the wonderful (IMHO) Private Reserve inks had died. Very sad to hear this.

I probably have at least 5 or 6 bottles of PR inks - Midnight Blues being one of my favorites. I whined when they changed their bottles from the handsome art deco bottle to the boring cylindrical bottle used now, but never thought that no new colours would be produced by PR, let alone that our ready supply of PR inks might disappear completely, at least not in my lifetime. I do hope that someone in Terry's family will carry on his work, but his will be tough shoes to fill. :(

ETA - thank you for linking that Pentrace article about Terry, Norman (His Nibs.) sounds as if Avalon Pens was - hopefully IS - a wonderful place to visit - and I had no idea that many of the Private Reserve colors and names were inspired by the colors of the old Fender and Gibson guitars of rock and roll fame - as a "child" of the 60's and early 70's, that adds a whole new dimension to my appreciation of the inks.

So sorry to hear. Thanks, Rachel, for letting us know. I own and love 30 PR inks--such fabulous colors, all well behaved and beautiful. I keep switching favorites--today it's PR Claret. My heart goes out to his family and to his employees.

My condolences. Certainly made my life more colourful. Sherwood Green and Avacado have been long standing favourites for me.

I didn't realise that this is the same person who had been listing many pens on FPN recently under the name Terry J. Very sad news either way.

I was wondering if that could be the same person too, I also recently bought a pen from him.

This is very sad news. The bottle of ink I bought was PR American Blue. I have since bought several bottles PR colors.

Late seeing this. Sadness. PR is my favorite ink.

I received an email announcement from the family. Allow me to express, however inadequate, my deepest condolences.
