Terry was quite the character! He left us a rainbow to remember him by. Tonight I will ink up the Taccia I bought at Avalon Pens (which he also owned), using a bottle of PR Black Cherry.

Sorry to hear of his passing. I have a few PR inks. Currently the only one in a pen is PR DC Supershow Violet in my MB 149 B nib.

Well that is sad news. I hope PR continues as a few of their inks (especially DC Super Violet) are among my favourites.

Private Reserve ink was the first bottled fountain pen ink I ever used...and a good thing because I loved it (DC Supershow Blue) immediately and am never without at least one pen inked up with it. PR remains the brand of which I have the most favorites. Very sad. RIP.

He left behind an amazing legacy. I too am sad that I didn't get to share my gratitude with him before he passed. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Write him a thank you note in his ink and leave it to him here.

Very sad news. My heartfelt condolences to his family and company. The fountain pen community is a small and tight knit group. Many of the most visible companies are run by one or two people instead of huge conglomerates. I hope and pray that Private Reserve will continue as a brand and that others may rise up to replace the wonderful people that pass away.

My condolences to Terry's family. I am very sorry to hear this. Although I've heard of Private Reserve, I never really paid the brand any attention, until recently. I discovered their wonderful colors about two weeks ago. Actually, I'm currently waiting on Orange Crush and Plum, and, after reading these posts, I see that I'm going to have to get American Blue and Blue Suede. I'm glad to hear that his business will carry on. God bless his family and friends.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

Except for the addition of Monteverde inks a couple of years ago, Private Reserve has been the only brand I've carried at His Nibs.com. Excellent inks, excellent colors and produced by an excellent man and staff.

I always enjoyed talking with Terry over the past decade or so, and loved to hear of his new ideas for colors. He always stood behind his products, and when I contacted him a few months ago about a clogging problem with the then-new Vampire Red ink, he immediately stopped its sale and investigated the problem...shortly coming up with a new formula that eliminated the problem and re-creating this blood-red ink.

I know that he will be missed by many in the fountain pen community, and of course by his co-workers, friends and family. Although we never met face-to-face, I was enriched by knowing him.

Terry's obituary can be found here.

An article by Len Provisor, about visiting Terry, can be found here.

The first bottled FP inks that I deliberately bought (that is, as opposed to ink that came with a pen) were from PR -- American Blue and Purple Mojo. And I love love love Rose Rage.

My very first bottle of ink was a Private Reserve ink. I asked the sales person at The Pen Store in Sydney what they recommended as the best ink and she went straight to Private Reserve. I needed something special as I was writing my specialist medical exams and I turned to fountain pens to give me the necessary legibility and speed. I passed and I will always thank Private Reserve for helping me! The bottle sits in my draw in my consulting rooms now, along with a growing number of pens that I was subsequently inspired to collect.

The name and appreciation of the quality of the ink have traveled far and wide. My sympathies to the family. I hope this little story gives them some pleasure and plenty of pride. I have certainly gained an enormous amount of pleasure from a passion sparked by Private Reserve ink.

My sympathy to his family. American Blue is one of my favorites, loaded in a TWSBI 540 with a Pendleton medium cursive italic nib. I will think of Terry when I see his rich blue in my journal.

Condolences to the family. Mr. Johnson gave the fountain pen community wonderful inks, and he will be remembered. American blue and black cherry are my two favourite inks.

Sometimes a technology reaches perfection and further development is just tinkering. The fountain pen is a good example of this.

I have three different colours of P.R. ink and like them all. Glad the company will continue.
