Cross Coventry Fountain Pen At Staples.

This merits another reply. I went over to Staples, now wisely armed with a 15% off coupon. While I was waling near the pen aisle I spotted a clerk changing the price tags.

There wasn't another Coventry in a desirable color, but I decided on a Black and Gold Aventura. Now $15 -15% with the coupon.

 

At $15 this is a giant no-brainer. I expect the shelves will empty very fast!

The coupons are online at Staples. Sign up at Staples when you go and you get their offers via email. I'm starting to pay closer attention to their offers because you can shave roughly 10-15% on many in-store purchases.

Thanks for the info, I've managed to find and print this coupon and make it to my local Staples all before Christmas. With the site being down a week or so, I've not been able to report my find until now! They had these pens on display at the front door on a Holiday Clearance display. They were marked at $15 ! With my coupon, I believe I paid just over $12 with tax. I think this is an excellent value at this price. Of course they had only one Chrome model left in stock, or I might have considered buying them all! I'll keep one Fine and one Medium and have extra Nibs in stock for both.

So I did get my green converter and bottle of Waterman's Intense Black ink just before Christmas. The converter was too long as others in the post have said, but I figured out how to make it work. I took a hacksaw and cut off a bit from the black plastic on the twist end of the converter, and it works perfectly.

Not much at all. 1/8th of an inch or less. I'll take a pick sometime and post it.

I received this pen as a gift for christmas...

Was weary because of the price but ever sin e my first metropolitan i never coint out a low priced pen.

I have only used the medium nib so far and after some small tunong i really like it. I cant find them at staples anymore here in michigan, but i want more just to have.

What i have noticed is that its great flow for shorter writing, but tonight, while writing a letter, the flow slowed almost to a stop. I waited about a minute and then it was fine... but i wonder why.... i filled a cart with noodlers blue eel which with the lubricant, should flow awesome!!! But it doesnt seem to. Ill try giving it a good cleaning. Cant remember if i cleaned it after the tuning of the nib so maybe its just particles or something.

All and all i like the pen. And the silver/gold version i got makes it look like a much more expensive pen.

Has anyone else had flow issues whrn writing for a ling period of time? Maybe its tge clairefontaine paper. Ive heard it can affect flow and esp with the lubricated ink... maybe.

It takes 10 or 15 minutes from when I put a cartridge in a dry pen before the flow ramps up, but once the feed is saturated, I have no troubles with the pen drying up while I'm writing. I see this behaviour with both M and F nibs.

Oh ok.

My priblem is that is hace been full for days and when i write past a couple sentences the flow slows ALOT!

Right now i have noodlers blue eel in and since its lubricated it shouldbt happen. It goes from the nice normal blue with shading all the way to the lightest form with no shading. If i stop for 5 seconds it goes to normal for a couple seconds then slows again.

Ill rinse out the cart and try another ink...

I had libertys elysium in last but didnt write for any length of time but didnt have any issues.

Weird that i did with a lubricated ink.

Will let u guys know how a different ink works. Maybe bbk... one of my favs.

The pen I got is a beautiful blue color and a very nice, smooth writer. I think the style is an amusing baroque impersonation of a Century.

I read some time ago that Cross had discontinued including a converter with new pens.

 

I bought the orange converter for mine after someone here posted it worked. It does.

 

The Coventry writes first time, every time. I like it more the more I use it. One of these days I'll get rid of the pens that don't write first time, every time. All those pens that need a flush or a fill to start. The Coventry is a keeper.

 

Edit to add: My pen has a fine nib.

Update:

Whether it was the nib tuning i did or the ink i had in it, im not sure.

I now have it inked with noodlers bbk and the flow issue it all but gone. :-)

Gave it a thorough cleaning and changed inks.

Im very happy with this pen.

I can't find any information on this pen. It's not listed on Staples website or Cross' website that I can find, nor does it appear to have ever been reviewed here on FPN.

This pen was put out for the holiday season and it is a Townsend sizing. The other non screw in convertor will work flawlessly.

I'm a new fountain pen user and picked up two coventrys for $12 or so at a Staples that still had them. I've been trying to get used to writing with the pen, but I'm having some issues . . . namely the ink seems to stop flowing. I loaded a cartridge, have a fine nib, and squeeze the cartridge like instructed till I see ink fill into the nib. I think try to write and . . . nothing. It takes a bit of pressure to get it started, and the line will come and go while writing. Once I get a steady flow (rare), if I let the pen sit for even a minute, uncap, and go to use we're back to no flow again. This has happened on both of them . . . honestly trying to figure out of I'm doing something wrong or if I got some stinkers. Any advise?

I was having the same problem, as yiu can read in earlier thread. I only used the medium. My problem was the ink. Try a thorough cleaning, and change inks. I had problems with niiers blue eel and when i swit hed to bbk (kingfisher) it is fine.

Start with the cleaning and different ink.

I dont use a converter. I just syringe ink into the cartridge.
