Must The Colour Of The Ink Match That Of The Pen?

Rules.............rules................rules.............................we must be in virgo territory.

When you put it that way, it sounds more like bureaucratic territory...

 

I don't get these posts where people want other people's rules.

Curiosity? I would imagine that's the driving force behind them.

 

There is a place for rules - traffic.

Would that the realm of rules were so constricted...

 

-Writing with a fountain pen should be free and flowing - in every way.

Only my 51's barrels match their pen colors...

 

Cedar Blue Vac (or Flighter) = PR DCSSB

Forest Green Aero = PR Ebony Green

Plum Aero = PR Ebony Purple

Black Special = Skrip Red (or Black)

 

The Vacs have invariably the same color ink = Parker Quink Blue with Solv-X

As with many other posters I try to align the writing characrteristcis of the pen to the choice of ink.... and quite frequently blue inks go in blue pens etc...

Dear fellow FPNers,

Please forgive me if this is an oldie that has been dealt with before, but I am new to FPN.

I have seen on various threads both here and elsewhere, a variety of comments in relation to whether or not the colour of the ink that one uses should match the colour of the fountain pen.

For me, it seems to detract significantly from the overall experience of using a fp if the two colours are not at least somewhat in harmony, one with the other. Red pen......green ink.....yuk! For me, a direct match is neither desirable, practical nor achievable. But I do believe that a warm coloured pen should be used to deliver a warm colour ink and a cooler colour pen, a cooler colour ink. Gold, silver, black and demonstrator pens appear to me to be immune to this 'rule' and may be used to deliver any colour.

What is the general view amongst you all?

But...lately I've been wondering about contrasting bright colored pens with somber inks from the opposite end of the color wheel. Just don't tell anyone.

If you insist, then trim your pen's flow to that of the ink. Some pens need a higher flow, some less -- and of course vice versa. You'll have to do a few experiments here. Keep a protocoll.

Although I tend to dedicate one ink to each pen, I don't always match ink colour to the colour of the pen. How well the ink behaves with each pen is more important to me. I do, however, have matched the following pens with specific inks:

 

1) My Irish Green ST Dupont Montparnasse pen matched with Montblanc Irish Green ink.

2) My limited edition Flame Red Classic Pen matched with Montblanc Alfred Hitchcock ink.

3) My blue Delta Fusion pen matched with Cartier Blue ink.

4) My black Waterman 52 pen matched with Noodler's Old Manhattan Black ink.

5) My red ripple Waterman 7 pink nib pen matched with Caran d'Ache saffron ink.

6) My toffee Waterman 100 years pen matched with Iroshizuku Yama-Budo ink.

7) My blue Waterman Hemisphere pen matched with Iroshizuku Kon-Peki ink.

 

All are working out fine for me and I am having fun writing with my pens daily.

I am so tuned into what I am writing and how it looks (i.e. the overall impression) that I could care less about what my pen looks like compared to the ink I'm using. I am learning, since I'm still pretty new to all this, how to find an ink with the color & shading I want that will work well in the pen with the nib that I want to use to create the words I'm working with. My two favorite pens are a 14 and a 15 Waterman, that look, well, very unlovely (like baking chocolate bars that have been in the box for a while - ewww!), but create such beautiful words and designs on the paper.

I don't have a rule for that , I ink my pens with inks I seem to like with the pen. My one firm rule however is that my dad's UK Parker 51 B nibbed Burgandy barrel with Stainless cap Parker 51 must use Quink Blue Black, because that is what he used in it.
