Is The Kaweco Sport Classic Supposed To Be A Smooth Writer?

I got a sport classic EF, it was super scratch and the nib was actually slit not in the middle, weird I know, anyhow, I ground it to balance but it still is a very dry writer that takes pressure to write unlike all my other pens that just hydroplane on paper by their own weights. Before I ask customer support to send me a replacement section, I wanted to check with you all to ask how it is supposed to be writing.

Mine was a smooth writer straight out of the box - also an EF nib.

It's actually a pleasure to write with so I would return it if it's as bothersome as what you're describing.

Now, I'm not an expert, and I've no direct knowledge of Kaweco products, but, if you ground the nib...wouldn't that, er, sorta like, void the warranty, and deep-six any chance of a replacement from customer support?

 

That aside, I think the slot not being properly centered should have been the first indicator it was time to call on customer support or return it to the retailer.

I have an EF Kaweco Ice Sport, and it's smooth, but it is a very dry writer. I like my pens on the drier side, but it's a little too dry even for me, so I may well adjust it a bit.

I have a medium Kaweco Sport Classic. It was a little dry and scratchy at first. I sorted out the dryness by gently pressing the nib against my thumb nail thus slightly spreading the tines. I found how to do this on one of Stephen Brown's videos (called something like How to Make Your Nib Wetter in Seconds); oh, and he's SBREBrown on youtube.

 

The scratchiness disappeared after very little use, so the nib is now smooth and flows well but doesn't gush.

 

If you decide to contact Kaweco, their customer service is excellent. I contacted them about the absence of a convertor for the pen, next thing I knew, they wanted my address and sent me ten of their little convertors through the post!

I concur with others here...my Kaweco sports have all been dry out of the box, but very, very smooth. Almost too smooth, if that makes sense!

I don't think Kaweco has very high quality control on the Sport. I purchased mine in a store and looked through the dozen or so they had I could see that the nibs tend to not be aligned with the feed. I didn't like the nib at first; with use the nib got better and now it is quite smooth.

Let's see. I have a Kaweco Sport with a B and 1.1 mm. I have two Art Sports, one with an F the other with an M. The F was slightly scratchy but it was tine misalignment. Once that was adjusted it writes smooth.

I have a Medium. Smooth right out of the box, and not all that dry. It does not get into rotation all that often but I just happened to ink it today, with Diamine Twilight.
