I'm totally up for writing them. Any idea what the best way to contact them would be?

Just visit their website and use the "Contact Us" page. I see you're in China, so you may have to explicitly visit the US or European Pentel sites.

Btw, Kuru Toga internal mechanism will never be made of metal. It would create too much friction and wear, metal rubbing against metal. Plastic is most suitable. The force is so light, because of the plastic weight, I can't see any appreciable wear for decades. Even still, one could always swap in replacements. Of course, one could go overboard and make the parts from carbon fiber, but that would be too expensive.

Smoothest and dark writing lead for 0.3mm Kuru Toga..... Pentel Ain Stein 2B, Uni NanoDia 2B, or something else?

Either is fine but they are quite soft especially for 0.3, try HB and H too.

I like the softer leads because I write with minimal pressure and still want a dark line. My order got messed up so I ended up today with NanoDia B lead instead of 2B, but some Ain Stein 2B came as well so it was a good chance to compare. Although the Kuru Toga mechanism doesn't work as well with the softer lead, I find that writing with 2B feels almost identical to writing with a smooth fountain pen.

I also got a Pentel Kerry in the mail today. Now I understand why these are so popular! It really feels like a fountain pen.

The thing is, I've already got my favorite 0.5 pencil. Oh well, I just need to make the GraphGear 1000 work for me. If I change the angle at which I hold the pencil, it doesn't feel as slippery and the balance doesn't bother me as much. I won't be writing novels with it, so I can survive haha. I long for the day when the Kuru Toga system is put into a really nice body. I'm totally mesmerized by that pencil haha.

Have you considered the Alvin Draft-Matic? It's point-heavy, has a well-knurled grip that doesn't slip on me at all, and I think it's metal construction although I wouldn't swear to it. I've used it for years and like it quite a lot.

Thanks for the suggestion! Those are some really nice pencils, but I ruled them out because I was looking for something with a retractable tip. :)

Totally fair! I'm OK with the slight risk of stabbing but it's not for everyone. :)

The older I get, the more clumsy I get. I once dropped a Platinum Preppy on my foot and had a tiny tattoo for months!

Oh no!

I'm not sure age has much to do with it though, I was a teenager when I managed to give myself an inch long cut running down the hall with a pen sticking out of my pocket, traumatized my teacher more than me though!

I was interested in mechanical pencils before I discovered modern fountain pens. I agree that they are the next best writing instrument.

My favorite mechanical pencil would have to be the Lamy Scribble (a real fun one.)

And after seeing an above post I do like the Pentel Kerry...

Has anyone ever used a Pilot OPT Shaker? I just bought a used one, 0.5, used, for 1 usd. It's in a carbon fiber pattern and I just couldn't resist!

Same here. It's always on my desk or in my notebook. Too bad it has 0.7 (I prefer 0.5), but it feels so comfortably to hold and write (much more so than many fountain pens, sadly).

Greetings,

Michael

Ah, I was watching that one! I have this OPT Shaker in white. It's not a bad pencil, but it's rather noisy. Earlier on when PILOT first started the Shaker pencils (shake to advance lead), they produced a very wide range of models. Their all steel 2020ST is a real beauty.

Yep, I got it :D It came in the mail yesterday. I absolutely love the pattern, the girth of the barrel, and the overall looks.

While it's a bit noisy, that doesn't really bother me. The lead will have to be changed as I find it too soft for my tastes.

I love it!!
