New Montblanc Inks

I'd be interested to know the sales figures for Midnight Blue. They mustn't be very high if they can just pull if off the market. My favourite ink of all. And I have neither the time nor the resources ($) to hunt the whole wide world for the last bottles.

What a pity. Midnight Blue is my perfect ink.

I applaud the idea of expanding the catalogue, but I don't see why the additions must take over the current one.

We'll just have to see, won't we? I'm just using my Midnight Blue as and when I want to and once it's gone - well, so be it. T'will be a while yet though: I've almost a full bottle plus two unopened ones to get through yet.

I love the colour of seaweed green, but i recenlty bought a sheaffer legacy broad nib pen and have been VERY disappointed by the performance. First i thought it was the pen, now i am thinking the ink. It just doesnt want to flow, but dries up and is impossible to use. Any thoughts or suggestions? Does anyone else have problems with this ink?

As far as I heard none of these new inks contain any IG. I assume the permanent inks are similar to the permanent De Atramentis inks based on nano technology (which effect on health is IMHO to less researched). So now MB doesn't have any IG ink left.

Regarding beer... If you are really interested in beer you should have a visit to Franconia, especially Bamberg. Bamberg has around 20 private breweries, while Munich has none. If you are interested in Dirndl, then Munich is better.

+1 Thanks for this link. Interesting review.

Are they really going to be selling them in that packaging? What is this, iInk?

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

MB MB is one of my most used inks, I don't see the point on slowing down that use to conserve what I have left either. It seems pointless to have it and not use it. Fortunately I have 2 more bottles of the previous MB Blue-Black to get through too, so I should be set for a while.

Looking forward to having the new inks to play with, but I'll miss MBMB.

Yes' it's a pity that the original one is being replaced. I'm looking forward to the 'new' one though, just to see what it's like. And the 'purple' when they bring that back but as I didn't get the original, it won't be so much a comparison; more of an new start. As for the waterproof document blue: I'll just see what the price is at Wheeler's!

Yes, absolutely. Thanks for this note. I was off for a while since OTL. I have absolutely nothing against the introduction of a new ink, but its replacement by a completely new ink is IMO unwarranted. Their old "goodies", esteemed and also sought after by so many of us, should still be offered. See (yes, this is aimed only at MB itself, since we ourselves are all already informed) e.g. Herbin, Diamine, R&K. With this type of philosophy, MB is now starting to deteriorate my faith in their loyalty.

Put better -- yes, I am, now yelling at MB itself! -- if hundreds to thousands of us had, in the last few years started to complain about any properties of this ink, then, yes, I could understand that the manufacture of this Ink might be discontinued, .

But MB's Midnight Blue seems to be a winner of all time. Maybe MB isn't following our threads, but doubt that.

I was afraid of that. Oh well. As much as I love IG inks, I'd rather get a new color to try. I can always go back and tell the sales person I didn't like it and would much prefer the old one. If enough people do that, it might make a comeback.

I think Mont Blanc has behaved badly by removing Midnight Blue while there is such a strong following for it. Just ordered a couple of bottles, which should keep me going for awhile.

Too bad. This is my now standard, everyday ink. Luckily a number of bottles can be had at local stores so I'm adding to the stockpile. Guess ill learn in a few years how true those expiration dates are. Hope to like the new ones as well though.

Going to the Mall Of America, Paradise Pen Co this afternoon to get one of their last three bottles of MB Midnight Blue. Promise to self - will NOT look at any of their pens!

I had to go into My nearest city today for a rare trip and while I was there I popped into the only store there that carries inks and they had some stock of the old Midnight Blue, so I picked up another bottle, so I am ok for a while. :-)

Last night I stopped by my local Paradise Pen, the only brick and mortar pen shop left in town, and got their LAST bottle of Midnight Blue. They had not heard about it being discontinued or the new inks, though she said she would call if new inks are available. Really nice, helpful folks. Am looking forward to trying this new ink later today.

The two new permanent inks and the reformulated MBMB were in stock at the Birmingham Boutique, New permanent inks are priced at £19 each / 60ml. I'll try to do some initial reactions tomorrow. The difference in packaging between the new and the old formula MBMB is very clear, photos below.

New Ident. 109204

Old Ident. 105194

The third block of text indicating that the ink is permanent has been removed from the new MBMB box (top).

Thanks for the update and photos, Bigeddie. Are the bottles inside the same squared-off bottles as those of the regular line?

I got some Midnight Blue cartridges today at the local boutique and the box omits mention of waterproof-osity - Ident. Nr. 105195. Must be the new version. They did not have the new permanents and when I inquired they responded "We're always the last to know."
