New Montblanc Inks

You are most welcome and the relative price of consumables hadn't escaped me. Also, the first and last time I imbibed in Munich was in 1977. Such fun.

By the way... that beer tastes okay... but when I see how it gets carried... then I get carried away.

I have a bottle of IG Blue/Black that I purchased and opened on 11-17-2-11. There is a sticker on the bottom of the bottle

that is marked 07011 and APR13. Does that mean that I should dump it? I only use it in one pen that's why I haven't used it up yet. Any guidance will be appreciated as I ahte to ruin my Starwalker with old ink.

a good ol' Oktoberfest beer (6.0%) comes in at as little as 9.40-9.85 Euro per litre (which is only 0.01 Euro/ml),

And I sold my 19 DM ticket to see Mick Jager in '72 for 40 DM....some jerk was walking around with a stack of better tickets for more....so I didn't get my 50DM. And how we complained they had jacked the price (do it every other year) to DM 3 :yikes: :yikes: (I'll round it off to 4 to one and not the 3.60 to one it was) 75 cents...instead of the $13 a quart it is now.) You drink it in litre mugs.

Of course I spent it at the O'Fest....am I stupid or what.

It was during the Olympics. The National Olympic drinikng teams met nightly at the Hofbrauhaus tent. I got a couple of golds, a silver and a couple of bronzes at 175 pounds.

We also had Fashing (carnival)..Where the German teacher in the first class looked at the red eyed students and ask too much Fashing or too much Hashing.

Of course....we was number 2 and wanted to be number 1.

Stutgart is number 2 beer fest in the world.

It's closer now.

Okay, what people don't understand about Oktoberfest beer: it's the first batch that comes out once it's cool enough weather to start brewing again. As a result, it's a fast "get it out the door quick, the natives are getting restless" beer. It's not really *good* beer, because it's not really aged.

Yes, I *am* sort of a beer snob.... And married to a guy who used to do a lot of homebrewing (and even then I didn't like all the stuff he'd make -- people would rave about his porter and I just couldn't drink the stuff , but he had a lovely red ale and some really amazing Russian imperial stout).

I have seen it mentioned here that some people still use there MB Blue/black. How old the ink, is up to them to tell us. What I would do is to tilt the bottle various ways and see if I can detect any sediment or sludge on the bottom. If none, then you are still good to go. If any, well, it depends on how much you value that ink. it's not produced anymore so a I might try and save as much of it without picking up any sludge. Otherwise toss it. No need to chance clogging your pen and having to have service work performed.

In some cases I have heard (on this forum again) that soaking in vinegar will dissolve the clog. How long to soak, I don't know. I haven't had to clear a clogged section yet.

A nice, cold Belgian fruit beer, say strawberry or raspberry - now that's a good beer!! English Newcastle or Irish brewed Guiness stout will also do, with the stout providing a meal in the bargain. I'm 99% German and 1% Irish, but the Germans aren't the only ones who know their way around a copper vat!

Thanks for the heads-up. I bought a bottle of MBMB last year and I really didn't start using it regularly until the last few weeks and the color and characteristic of it has grown on me since then. I think I'll pick up one more bottle just in case.

I wouldn't mind having an iron-gall ink for document signing, probably the black one, and a non-iron-gall blue-black for everyday writing, I love blue-black ink but would rather not keep iron-gall ink in my pens for longer periods like regular ink.

Thanks for the response Rudy. I'll try your method of the tilt and see if I can detect anything. I have to tell myself that it's only ink not a bottle of 30 year-0ld Single Malt

Scotch.

I always thought Oktoberfest beers were Märzen beers that were brewed in the Spring, March specifically, and were stored through the Summer until the righteous festivals began in September. But I guess not all "Oktoberfest" beers are Märzens. Certainly not here in the States where many beers labelled "Oktoberfest" are spiced with all manner of nutmeg, pumpkin, etc. Some are okay, but they're not as easily digestible as the beers that inspired the tradition.

On topic, I'm sad to see the current MB Midnight Blue swept aside for the new inks. There's no shortage of inks that can hit certain marks for permanence, color, etc., but Midnight Blue was one of only a few I've used that could provide a little of everything I want from an ink.

Lamy, then Pelikan, and now Montblanc. What the hell is it with iron gall blue blacks that gets the contraband treatment here in the U.S.?

Concerning the statement " Midnight Blue was one of only a few I've used that could provide a little of everything I want from an ink". That's why i consider MB/MB the SUV of inks. To me it provided a lot of everything I wanted from a ink. Kind of like a ink Land Rover. :)

Damn, this is a blow! I rate MBMB as the best of the 100+ inks I own... where can I stock up?!

MBMB is my favourite ink, I'm really hoping that the replacement permanent blue is a similar-looking blue-black. One of the things I really like about MBMB is that it's water and fade resistant.

I think I might have a buy another bottle of the current MBMB in case I don't like the replacement.

I stopped by Fahrney's Pens yesterday, and they still had a good supply of Montblanc Midnight Blue.

I just flushed and refilled with MBMB. I remember it being a very nice ink but I'd forgotten just how nice an ink it is. I've only used it one other time as it's my "special" ink due to the price and bottle. Oh well. I already have enough ink for a lifetime. I'll wait until the new colors come out. Even if this runs out, ESSRI is supposed to be very good.

I have managed to get a hold of two more bottles from a boutique, I had them confirm with UK logistics that it was discontinued (I tried to order 15 bottles ). Apparently they still have some in stores if people want to try phoning their local ones.

In the German forum is a review of the blue ink:

http://www.penexchange.de/forum_neu/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=8012

As far as I heard none of these new inks contain any IG. I assume the permanent inks are similar to the permanent De Atramentis inks based on nano technology (which effect on health is IMHO to less researched). So now MB doesn't have any IG ink left.

Regarding beer... If you are really interested in beer you should have a visit to Franconia, especially Bamberg. Bamberg has around 20 private breweries, while Munich has none. If you are interested in Dirndl, then Munich is better.
