Diamine Or Private Reserve Bottled Ink?

Noodler's Red Black is my favorite really dark red but Oxblood is good too. I have a bottle of each and PR Black Cherry as well and Black Cherry is not what you're looking for. PR Ebony Green is nice and has great sheen, I haven't tried the Ebony Purple yet. PR Sepia needs a wet, free flowing pen but it's gorgeous. Diamine makes a lot of nice Browns, Ochre has really nice color but is hard to flush.

My favorite dark blue is De Atramentis Atlantic Blue.

I think teal makes me..... It's not a favorite color.

I also prefer Diamine over PR inks.

I always get a kick out of these "no affiliation" notations when it's blatantly obvious the poster has absolutely nothing to do with the brand, company, etc. beyond being a customer. It must be a feel-good/feel-important thing. So I'll note up front that nothing I write here on this forum is influenced by any financial-gain motivation.

Some part of me is wondering whether I should wait a while & buy some high end inks rather... :) ... what to do?? lol

What high end inks are you talking about? .... Just because they are more expensive... it doesn't make them any better.

Four bottles - two are Diamine (blue black and Sherwood Green). The others are a Pelikan 4001 blue black and Noodler's 54th Massachusetts. Plus a bunch of samples: Akkerman, Noodler's, Diamine, Sheaffer, Monteverde.

I have several Private Reserve inks and have had good luck with all of them. I haven't gotten around to the Diamine inks yet, although they seem to be highly regarded.

You mentioned liking darker inks that look almost black - PR Ebony Purple looks like that in some of my pens. The Ebony Green is also almost black. The Ebony Blue and Ebony Brown both show more of the non-black color than the other two.

My two cents are for Diamine. They make my favorite colours. PR is not a bad ink...I like their ebony series but all in all Diamine gets most of my ink money.

I'm for Diamine, PR isn't a bad brand but sometimes their inks quality isn't there. It's rare but it happens.

The PR inks I was thinking of getting was Sepia, Fiesta Red, Ebony Purple, Ebony Blue & Blue Suede...however...after lots more research & some more price hunting...I've deicided to go with Diamine 30ml from Cultpens.

I'm in SA so I need to think of shipping & customs - lucky for me I have a friend in the UK that visits often...so instead of 5 PR inks I can get +-12 Diamine inks.

Here are some I'm considering:

Kelly Green

Apple Glory

Delamere Green

Saddle Brown

Golden Brown

Pumpkin

Ruby

Wild Strawberry

Yellow

Sunshine Yellow

Lavender

Deep Magenta

Twilight

Aqua Blue

Steel Blue

Mediterranean Blue

Ancient Copper

...& there are tons more...think I need a week or 2 to finalize my list  never thought choosing ink could be this difficult!

I love my Diamine inks... I have 45 of their colors and zero of the Private Reserve... So you know my thoughts.

45-0!

crazy! :)

My PR Spearmint is my fave green: smooth, medium saturation, excellent shading.

Actually it's easy: buy and use as many inks as you can. It lowers shipment costs and justifies your having dozens of pens. It works well for me. Every day I think of yet more reasons for using a different pen and a different ink.

FWIW, you can order directly from Diamine. See here-http://www.diamineinks.co.uk/ Just in case getting ink shipped to you from USA is difficult. Nice thing about buying from them in the UK is they sell ink in 30ml plastic bottles, so you can get smaller amounts if you are not sure of a color, and the bottles are plastic, so weight less. Might save in shipping costs. Also, they used to send packets of various colored cartridges as a lagniappe.

Some people say they march to a different drummer. Me? I hear bagpipes.

I am purchasing from the UK, will work out cheaper than from the US...Cultpens have the 30ml bottles for £2,35 incl vat... cheaper than the Diamine website

Here's an updated list after seeing this thread https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/250366-all-diamine-inks-compared/?hl=diamine: (cannot believe this dude has them all :yikes: )

Dark Green

Ultra Green

Delamere Green

Pumpkin

Oxblood

Matador

Claret

Bilberry

Yellow

Ancient Copper

Macassar

Chocolate Brown

Steel Blue

Teal

Havasu Turquoise

ASA Blue

Deep Dark Blue (cultpens)

Onyx Black

Any more suggestions guys? Have any of you had issues with any of the above listed inks (fading, clogging, etc)?

I like them both. PR was available locally which was terrific, but our local pen store closed. So, now you have to order them both online.

See fade tests from Cybaea for the Diamine inks and I have both inks in some of my prior fade tests. Some inks just clog more, so be aware and read the reviews.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
