Hi, I am back again!

Here you see some writing samples of the Christie, Collodi and Balzac. All fitted with a B-nib. For a good comparison I used for all three the same ink. First thing that I notice is that the B nib has evoluated a bit. Normally I think the B of the Christie is already a smooth writer with nice stubbish characteristics, but along the years the B are being smoother and smoother. The Collodi for example is a smoother writer with same characteristics as the Christie. But now this year's WE is even more smoother, maybe it is due it wetness and even broader nib.

Comparison in size between the Christie and De Balzac. The section of the Balzac is also curved and even longer. The fingers can easily find a good grip below the metal threads.

Comparison in size between Collodi and De Balzac. The pistonknob of the Collodi is much longer but De Balzac has also that tappered end. The pen easily can rest between the thumb and pointingfinger.

All three pens together.

I knew I'd be in trouble the minute I asked for that comparison...

Thank you for the information and beautiful pictures!

Thank you for the compliments.

Did I convince you enough?! :P

(MB really should pay me to make the pics and post all the "adverts" for them)

Thanks again for the compliments.

What I also noticed when taking the photos is that the body is very bold (like the bold stature of Balzac himself) in comparison with the Christie

Haha, perhaps. In a month, after the sailing season (small open boat -- lots of fun), when it's getting cold and dark outside and a visit to a penshop in Tilburg, Den Haag or Laren would be nice.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Thanks for a great review. I have not yet decided on getting the WE Balzac; I keep looking at photos to get my interests in this pen's design. I still could not get that final mental click with which I bought the previous WEs (Thomas Mann, Mark Twain, Carlo Collodi and Jonathan Swift).

Hmm...

You have all the WE's since the Mann.

You are right; this one has to grow in interest.

When I first got it in my hands it was nice, but the days after I have seen more and more interesting details.

Hope you can hold one before deciding.

Still could not get it in your hands to try?

Mine is in current and rotation. I have to say it is a slow grower.

Every time I look at it it looks a bit strange with those different colours, but it is a good and wet writer and I like it more and more.

I have not found a chance to hold it in my hands. So, my decision will be solely based on what I see in the photos and what I hear on the forums. As I started my very expensive "ritual" of collecting WE since Thomas Mann, getting the Balzac simply because of this "ritual" of mine is still a valid reason enough. So, I am telling this to myself.....

Anyway, I decided to get the Balzac with an F nib.
