Hi Abhishek,

Where is the Ambitious Calligraphy Pen available??

It is available in pepperfry.com

http://www.pepperfry.com/ambitious-calligraphy-set-1055006.html

but i have read reviews AGAINST pepperfry like this

http://www.consumercourt.in/online-shopping/120139-pepperfry-did-fraud-eated-my-hard-earned-1-5-lakh-rs.html

so be careful and never place any big order from there, if you think you can take risk of 110 rupees then purchase.

it is also on snapdeal.com.snapdeal is safe. but snapdeal is selling 4 pens in one packet. so worthless to purchase from there.

@ Livefree, Fountain pens are an addiction. Even more addictive are the colors of Inks available in the market. Initiating with fountain pens using normal blues is kinda ok for me. I however, got hooked onto FPs partially also because of ink colors available. And try Sheaffer inks which come in brown, turquoise, black, emerald and I think are also the cheapest amongst all quality inks. You can also try Pelikan 4001 inks which have bright red (truly a bright red color), violet colors apart from the ones I mentioned for sheaffer. Then there's a portal in india which also retails diamine which are at around INR 325 for 30 ml, but diamine has amazing colors. There's a label called Private Reserve Inks, but those are expensive at around 500 bucks a bottle. They have an amazing color range, like, gold, copper, arabian rose et al.

That's about inks.

On FPs apart from the ones that you've bought, there are entry level pelikan FPs at around 400 bucks, damn neat pens and a very good brand to get indoctrinated to using FPs. Personally, I've never used Camlins or any other Indian brands and hence wouldn't want to comment on them.

If you stretch your budget to around 1500 bucks, there there is Lamy Safari, which generally is what people use at the beginning of their FP addiction, and then it grows onto you and hits your pocket quite often, in form of buying pens that are quite expensive.

FPMissile, that's what I call it.

However, I love your interest in FPs and trust me, it's something that's going to grow over you....

All the best!

thank you, It is great to know there are such colours, i can not purchase them now, but can purchase at later time, after one month.

Hi Abishek, the Handy is a horrible pen and you can do better than that even for 15 rupees!

If you want a really nice pen I would try to get a vintage Parker 45, or perhaps look around the 300-400 rupee mark for Airmail/Wality, Guider or Deccan. Those need a little looking for, or perhaps ordering specially; or you can probably find the Camlin Elegante pretty much anywhere, which strikes me as a good pen and doesn't cost more than a couple of hundred rupees.

(You might also be lucky enough to find old stock Sheaffer No-Nonsense. Those are really superb pens. I know Apsara Pens in Mumbai has a stock of them in different colours.)

The calligraphy pen might be nice later on if you want to practise the art - but it's never going to handle well for everyday writing.

Too many pens, too little time!

A shout-out for Fountain Pen Revolution, which is a great place to purchase Indian pens if you don't live in India.

I expect the pens stocked there would be cheaper bought elsewhere if you ARE in India, but it may be a good resource for browsing and information anyway.

Hey! Have you tried ASAPENS.in? It is a superb and the most reliable place to buy amazing fountain pens online in India. The store owner Mr. Subramaniam shares our passion for fountain pens. They have most major Indian fountain pens and also offer their in house hand made pens. The pens are available at unbeatable prices too!

I am just a satisfied customer like hundreds on FPN. No affiliation.

Guys any ideas where the Parker 45 can be bought in Delhi NCR?

In NCR the best place for vintage pens is NR Pens in CP.

In my personal opinion, I don't find NR pens shop very useful. Their price is not reasonable and they don't have a collection of vintage pens except few used parker 45 and some Sheaffer.

You can contact PenPradeep, a member here. He is a collector and has a decent collections of pens. He sells and repairs too. You can also contact Mr. Prathap of GEM Pens and company, parrys, Chennai. He can easily arrange Parker 45 at quite a less price than NR pen shops.

Note: I'm not affliated with any of the aforesaid mentioned seller in my post. I'm just sharing my personal experience.

You can get clean used parker 45 for anything between Rs 500 to 700; get in touch with Prathap of GEM Pen and Company, Chennai.

I didn't find any difference between solid gold and steel nib while writing. Parker 45 comes with 14K solid, 12K solid gold and steel nibs.

it is the tip of the nib which writes on paper not gold. And as far as I know, there is no fountain pen nib tip is made of solid gold.

It's all about personal preference and of course, gold nib lasts more than steel nib.

You can also try peytonstreetpens.com. The seller is based out of USA and ships to India too. keep an eye on FPN classifieds and FPGeeks.com classifieds. Parker 45 is very common. you might get a good deal on that

Dear bk123,

I also agree that the prices are on a higher side, sometimes astronomical. But they have a good collection of vintage pens (few of them costing a fortune). They may not be having stocks when you visited them. Beware of repaired pens which are aplenty with them.

Thanks.
